Wednesday, December 27th, 2006.
One year ago today, I saw Brokeback Mountain for the first time, at the Loew's theater in Boston, Mass. It was the 11:10 am show. I can remember every minute of that day as if it was yesterday. One year later and look what has happened. If I knew then what I know now, would I have even gone into that theater? Of course.
Actually, remember the movies this time last year? We had lots of good things to choose from. This year, I look at the listings and nothing appeals to me. I did see The Holiday a few weeks ago and that was fun but not any sort of an award winner. Overall, I think 2006 has been a very mediocre year for movies.
Meanwhile, it is 33 degrees, cloudy, no snow. All the snow related businesses here in Maine are starting to worry.

Hmm, I saw it on December 23rd 2005. Then again a week later. That is when the downward spiral began. Depression, grief, conflict with my best friend. Perhaps ultimately causing me to turn to the wrong person for comfort. Perhaps I can blame the movie for where I am today? No, not really.
Yes, the movie did turn my life upside down. But what we do with it afterwards is our own choice. I focus less now on the movie and more on the benefits of meeting so many new fine people.
