Ah, don't worry about it. Even needing a passport for domestic flights within the continental U.S. would be an enormous pain and infringement.

But our resident expert hasn't heard anything about it, so perhaps it's a false rumor.  :D

But looking at it the other way, what's the big objection about getting a passport? I have had a passport since I was 14 (before I got a driver's license). I always keep it renewed, no big deal. Why do people object? I read somewhere that 73% of Americans don't have them. I have met people who REFUSE to get them. (Don't ask me why, their arguments don't make any sense.) I just don't get it.

Search me. Why on earth would anyone refuse to get a passport? I've had one since 1985, and I keep it valid, even though I have yet to need it.

But I can sure see objecting to being required to have a passport to travel within the continental U.S.

One could argue that a federal identification document, issued by the state department, is a much more valid method of identification than a drivers license, issued by a state.

Your drivers license as identification is worthless outside of the US. Why is it held in such high regard within this country? And not everyone drives...
