I guess I should turn in my gay card for lack of self-awareness. I would probably just laugh--without thinking about it--if I heard a remark like that.  :-\

--- Quote from: Nutmeg Guy on December 28, 2007, 10:50:57 am ---Oh the weird things you over hear at an airport....

I was walking towards a family at the airport yesterday and caught the end of a conversation.        A Mom was helping her small children get their bags up on the divesting tables.    One of the small children (aged 7-10 maybe) said something to Mom that I didn't hear.

But it was Moms responce that caught my attention.

............."They are not Homosexuals when you need them".   she remarked back.

I just couldn't imagine what the child could have said.

But then I realized that the only airline still open that late has a very effeminate gay man working the ticket counter.      Could the child had asked mom if that was a homosexual?

So what exactly was the inference here?

Was the child told by the parents we don't need Homosexuals?

Don't associate with them unless you need them for something?

Unbelievable.   Unfortunately they had scurried off before I came up with a snappy responce.

How about:   That's OK.  You are not ignorant bigots when we need you as passengers".

Christmas day I was walking past the same Airline ticket counter when I spotted the same Agent working.   He as passing out gifts to some of the other employees at the airport.      I called over :"Hey!  Where is my gift?"

He gasped!   "Oh no!  I forgot.  I haven't seen you lately."  I walked over and said "no big deal, I was only kidding"

I extended my hand to shake his and wish him a Merry Christmas.   He ran around the ticket counter and gave me a big bear hug.   LOL.

hm. I guess it would be the tone that told the story but reading it (to me) it sounds like a rebuke...like maybe the child had used a bad word and she was saying "You don't talk about people like that when YOU need something from them...."

it just seems like such a weird way to phrase it..no matter what she was trying to convey....

sorry, David....like you don't have enough to deal with!

Louise and I are planning another movie simulcast. We have "Transamerica" and "Big Fish" lined up. And I have the football game tonight. I don't think I will be venturing very far from the house today.
