Tales of Greenlea County - Discussion of All Stories (UPDATE)

INCLUDES INDEX: (Updated 10-12-08)

Welcome to Bettermost, for new readers, and welcome to those who originally discovered the "Laramie Saga" which is now being rewritten as an original story.

I will be reserving this first post for the index and links to the stories, which are now very numerous!! and will be adding links to this first message as I gather them up and post them.

"Tales of Greenlea County" consists of a number of novel-length stories as well as a number of short stories and short-shorts that take place in Tourmaline, Arizona, a fictional town in northeast Arizona in the mid 1980's.  It centers around the deputy Sheriff of the county, Ellery Cantrell, and his encounter with a closeted, out of work horse wrangler, Colson Grey, who responds to an ad for a "Men's club" in Tourmaline, which draws Colson out to discover the mysteries of queer life after suffering the mysterious death of his gay partner, Adam.

Originally based on the character of Ennis from Brokeback Mountain, I have rewritten the story and changed the background and locale as a complete original.   My ongoing stories, I have written as "Greenlea Tales" so I am working my way forward through the original book series as well as continuing on with new stories that were not part of the "Laramie" tales.  (If that makes sense.)

I am advertising the story in a limited way in the Brokeback fandom, in part because the story when I first produced it created a firestorm of controversy over the original character elements and the lack of acceptance of a new life for the main character.  This discussion group is for a treatment of these tales AS REWRITTEN, and not about the rewriting process itself, nor about the former controversy.  Controversy still rages over the acceptability of the movie Ennis ever finding another love or a better life after Jack's death - and I have my own opinions about whether that was possible or not.  It was always my intention of transforming my first writings into completely original tales, since I have written a half-dozen original novels prior to this, and am used to having my own characters with their own back-story.

Please feel free to jump into any part of the story that you happen to be reading. I know that there are some "marathoners" who are reading 50, 75 or 100 pages a day on the site, and pretty soon most readers will be pacing me as I work through book 5, 6 and 7 in the first set of novels.  It is not necessary to use spoilers since many readers are reading the story for the second time or more.

When the first series (now projected to be 8 books, including the final volume "The Law of Greenlea County") is complete I will be adding the follow-on stories to it.  Until then, the later stories with Colson and Ellery will remain on my personal LJ, louisev.livejournal.com.  The version of "Taking Chances" on that LJ is an earlier edition.
