Jack's "Hippie" Songs

Oh yes.....I love that song..."Puff the Magic Dragon"...and I found the story in the words quite sad, as I thought of a little boy and his imaginary friend Puff....until  "Jackie" grew up and didnt need his childhood "friend" anymore.

Then years later, I read that the song was about drug taking and hallucinary trips, and I was flabergasted.

No matter what,  though, when I hear the song now,  I still have the picture of the little boy and his imagineray pet dragon.

I have heard this about the song being about drugs, but I read the words very closely and I do not believe they are. It is obvious that they are about a child's imagination and how when he grows up that imagination is lost. He no longer believes in dragons. It is actually quite a sad song. It is also deep if you begin to think about all that goes along with the loss of imagination. I believe at certain times people have found every song imagineable about drugs or something similar. It is also funny that on my "Ramblings" thread Shasta and I have been talking about the imaginations we both had as children  :)
