but.....but.....but...what the heck??! How can this be? The girl with LESS clothes lost! the winner had all that wind resistance and..and...RESTRICTED movement (what with actual SLEEVES in her top and her shorts all the way down to the top of her thighs...)

I feel like the sun has risen in the west...how can this be?!  How did the girl in the bikini LOSE like that? She was streamlined and could MOVE freely!!

I just don't know ...

The Jamacian Track team are on fire.... that guy Usain Bolt is simply awesome!

One of the commentators for the BBC is Micheal Jordan and it was intersting to get his take and immediate reaction (you even saw footage of himm watching the race!) of Usain Bolt breaking his world record...

That must have been gutting though.. did you see the actual race - she was way in front and clipped the hurdel and gave each of the medals away. Tje pictures of her just sitting on the track, dejected.... eek!

Did you hear about the 10km South African swimmer Natalie du Toit? She lost her leg after being hit by a reckless driver in 2001. Shes a multi Paralympics medal winner but she was in the normal olympics and was really gunning for a medal... She qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics after finishing fourth in the 10km open water race at the Open Water World Championships in Seville, Spain. Her time was only 5.1 seconds off the winner.

She ended up being 16th, 1:22.2 minutes behind the winner. She will also take part in the 2008 Summer Paralympics - gutsy girl - maybe she'll come back to do better in the 2012 Olympics.....

Maybe she'll even do as good as Phelps - in Athens she got 5 swimming golds & 1 silver ...Maybe she'll go on to be more successful than Britian's amazing Tanni Grey-Thompson who has 11 golds, 4 silvers and one bronze at 4 olympics in athletics....

The 10K swimming race is quite exciting - you can watch part of it at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/live_action/default.stm?lmpid=b00cs7j8&sid=7534972

Compare that to the French gymnast who was so thrilled with his bronze. He was crying and looked like he was about to puke in excitement at one point.

I felt sorry for Lolo.  She had a rough childhood and moved around all her childhood, until high school when she put her foot down and told her parents she wasn't moving anymore because she wanted to compete in track and get to college.

So she stayed with various foster families so she could finish high school and get her scholarship I guess to LSU.

Shit, that's hard.

That was her foster mother and sister - I think - in the stands, their flag ready to wave - she had been the favorite coming into this and was on her way to a gold and just tagged that 2nd to last hurdle and lost out completely on medaling.

The look on their faces was tragic.

Lolo couldn't believe it.  She stayed kneeling on the track for a long time, disbelief on her face.  She had guts though.  She faced a camera and said with good grace that she 'normally hits a hurdle once or twice a year, and it just sucks that it just happened to be this time around'.

Then she went in the back and cried.

She showed much better grace than that football player's fiancee who was the favorite in the 200 m {?} when she ran out of steam, and lost blamed a muscle cramp, though she didn't so much as rub her leg after she lost.

EDITED TO ADD:  Shame about Lolo also, she's so beautiful, the commercial endorsements would have come flying in for her to make her a fortune.
