Because it's a........................................

MOLD FOR MAKING TOOLS!!!

Specifically a mold for making a hammer! The little ladle on the side is used to hold the molten metal. Then the device is tipped to allow the molten metal to pour into the hammer mold located on the left.

A handle is attached through the bottom of the mold. Here's some more information about it....

Congratulations Sue, Marie and Jess!!! :D :D :D

mariez:
Yay!  I got one right! LOL!  Congrats to Sue and Jess, too.  It's funny that I picked the right answer, but I was wrong in figuring out how it worked - I had it backwards!

Thanks for my lamb, David!   :)

Marie

louisev:
that is a great item! I knew that Horat was a machinery company which is why I thought it was a different kind of mold.  The Horat factory was taken over by a plastics molding company after that, in the 1930's sometime.  I liked the instructions:  'When hammer is battered, melt it and use the same metal for making another!

Kerry:

Congratulation Sue, Marie and Jess!  :D

Great game, David! Apologies for not posting my promised poll yet. There's never enough time, never enough. Hopefully tonight!  :D
