I can understand how it would be pronounced "Kosh" too Sue! :D
Evansville Indiana is very German, so I suppose that may be the reason it's pronounced "Cook" down there. I really don't know for sure. :)

I have a friend who used to live on a Koch Street (yep, it was pronounced "Cook," too)! Although she said she got tired of correcting people.
Some of those were pretty funny! Who wouldn't want to live on "Easy Street"? My younger sister lives on the corner of "Boardwalk" and "Park Place" which I think is kind of cool. I guess somebody was a Monopoly lover :)

I used to work at a Credit Union and one of the customers name was FUCH.......pronounced Fush....
Another customer who grew up with the surname COCK, when he applied for a loan, he had a certificate showing he had changed his name by deed poll from that to something else.
I asked him about it, and he said, he grew up copping shit from people and he did not want his kids to have the same thing happen, hence the name change.

Oh and another one.....sorry, I know these aren't stret names, but people's surnames are quite peculiar too.
A professional footballer here in Australia changed his surname from Hunt......his first name was Mike.......and I know this has been said in a joke but this is true.......he changed his surname to his mothers name, De Vere, and was professionally known as Michael De Vere.
