Keith Olbermann vs Proposition 8
Brown Eyes:
Thanks so much for posting this! :)
I had heard that he was going to make a "Special Comment" on Prop 8, but I missed the show. So, I was curious about what he would say.

Thank you, David, John and Roland.
Here's an interesting response; be sure to watch it through: Protect traditional marriage: Prohibit divorce.

Don't laugh! There have been conservative efforts in recent years to do that, too. (Probably not in California, though.)
UPDATE: I take that back! Here's a story, and it WAS in California! (Isn't everything?) I guess it's less about limiting than making it harder.

Mikaela:
Earlier this year, Norway passed a gender neutral Marriage Act. The Scandinavian countries being among the most secular in the world, there was no doubt at all that the law would pass, but there neverteheless was an element of very vocal opposition. All of it coming from religious groups; - conservative Christians, the Catholic Church, and also muslims.
But those who supported the new law and worked to have it passed made the IMO most beautiful verse from the bible their rallying cry, which they consistently met the opposition with: But the greatest of all is love. (1 Cor 13:13 - "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.") That actually took a lot of the wind out of the conservatives' sails. It's pretty hard to effectively counter such a beautiful verse from the Good Book with another harsh and ugly one about homosexuality being an abomination that people should be put to death for. You kind of end up looking just like the prejudiced bigot you are, doing that.
So yes, I think the approach Olberman uses here is the one that will see Prop 8 defeated in the end. Obviously, because it's the simple and beautiful truth. Even the not-completely-fundamentalist Christian groups will come to realize that the greatest of all *is* love - and change their views accordingly.
But I'm very, very sorry that there still is such a long way to go for you guys. :-\
