Swimming Pool Safety Deadline Approaching
By federal law all public swimming pools and hot tubs must shut down after Friday if they don't have new, safer, drain covers installed.
The new requirements involve what are known as "anti-drowning covers" that are designed to keep people from getting sucked onto drains and held under water. "It's kind of putting the cart before the horse."
Congress passed a law last year requiring new drain covers on public swimming pools and hot tubs. The legislation stems from an incident in which a six-year-old, Minnesota child was partially disemboweled when she sat on a wading pool drain. The child died last March, three months after Congress passed the law.

Good news, if belated. Thanks for the update, Chuck.

Thats good to see Chucky.
Yes there used to be a problem with hot tubs too.......suction drains at the bottom of the tub.
There was an incident here, I remember, when a young girl with long hair, went under the water in a hot tub, and her hair got sucked into the drain and she was unable to pull herself free, and drowned.......terrible terrible terrible.....
We have had laws about hot tubs here for quite a while.
