Pelican Swallows Cell Phone
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Can you hear me now? A pelican at the Tautphaus Park Zoo took something other than food in his bill when a cell phone that had been dropped in a pool at the exhibit made its way down the hatch. The flock in the exhibit were playing with the phone Monday until one of the birds swallowed it. For three hours, zookeepers couldn't figure out which bird did it until the culprit coughed up the goods.
"Luckily, the bird regurgitated it so it wouldn't harm him," zoo superintendent Bill Gersonde said. "We just need folks to be really cautious when they're in the zoo and remember that they're guests in the animals' homes and they need to keep their personal belongings as close to them as possible."
Officials haven't figured out who owns the phone.
David In Indy:
Well, if he hadn't puked it up he would have pooped it out sooner or later! What goes in must come out! But I'm not sure if I'd want my cellphone back once it fell out of a pellican's ass.
I don't think I'd want it back after it was puked back up either. :P
Cute story Laura! :D

Wayward wallaby back home again in Indiana
Gaston - A wayward wallaby is back home in eastern Indiana after two months on the run, er, hop.
The missing kangaroo-like marsupial, named Sidney, was captured Monday night near her owner's home in Gaston, about 10 miles northwest of Muncie.
Owner Carolyn Buck says the family had set up a pen and set food inside to attract the mammal. Her son-in-law, who lives nearby, sneaked out a window to shut Sidney in because the doors were visible from the trap.
Buck received phone calls and messages from people who claimed to have seen the wallaby as far as 25 miles away.
Buck doesn't think Sidney got too far away, however. The family spotted her several times at a nearby stream.

Gibson, World's Tallest Dog, Dies
GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (Aug. 12) - Gibson, the California dog dubbed the tallest in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records, has died after a battle with bone cancer.
The 7-year-old harlequin Great Dane from Grass Valley measured 7 feet, 1 inch when standing on its hinds legs.
He was diagnosed with the disease in April and had his front right leg amputated to prevent its spread. He also underwent chemotherapy as a precaution.
Gibson's owner, Sandy Hall, learned last week the cancer had spread to his lungs and spine and that no treatment that could save him. Hall decided to euthanize Gibson on Friday.
Gibson appeared on "The Tonight Show," "The Oprah Show" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and on Japanese television in 2006 after being named the world's tallest dog.
