Four (now TWENTY!) Effin' Years! How will you celebrate?
Front-Ranger:
My anniversary is during that awkward week between Christmas and New Year's. My daughter gifted me a lunch at the Dushabe Teahouse in Boulder followed by a viewing of the film for Christmas. I was going to skip it. I didn't want to see a film of my beloved story starring any teenybopper heartthrobs. I had just seen part of Bubble Boy and Ten Things I Hate About You.
But I went anyway and the rest is history, their story, my story. :-*
And BTW, the 20th anniversary of the US release is today, December 9, 2025!

I'm a latecomer who didn't see it until early January; I'm guessing the 7th or 8th. The rest of my family went to a hockey game. I decided to go to a movie and it was between BBM and The New World.
Still haven't seen The New World.

I saw it in the theater. You're not missing a whole lot, except the sets, costumes, and so forth are quite good.
I have a copy of it in my movie collection, but somehow, I've never gotten around to watching it.

Its Rotten Tomato scores are middling. But I like Colin Farrell, Christian Bale and director Terrence Malick.
Front-Ranger:
Malick has...shall we say, a different way of telling a story. But if you can tolerate his slow and meandering ways, it's a terrific movie. Even years later, I can close my eyes and see scenes from A New World. No one knows for sure, but I believe it is more accurate than many movies with that theme.
