2 000 - 2 010 - the MEAN Decade?
Sheriff Roland:
Each decade, as seen through the lens of history gets a moniker ... I think back to the roaring 20's, the dirty 30's, the psychedelic 60's, the ME 80's. How will the first decade of this century be remembered?
This article, published in the SUN is mostly Canadian in it's perception, however, it struck me as a worthy moniker for the decade that was.

The 2000s: The decade dedicated to being mean
...humanity will not mourn the passing of the Mean Decade.
Sure, it offered us the distraction of bigger televisions and smaller music players.
It seduced us by pretending to care about our personal stories — told through social media, on reality TV and across cellphone networks that managed to reach the most remote corners of the Earth.
But at its heart, the past decade was a selfish bastard. And we all know it.
It welcomed in a new era of terrorism. It embraced wars on two new fronts. It whispered intolerance into our ears and made us fearful to even fly. It told our children that the flu might kill them. It stole the jobs of our neighbours. It whittled away our faith in the RCMP and the politicians we elect. It made us angry and it made us unsure. It hurt us whenever it could.
...
Front-Ranger:
That has the ring of truth, Roland. The first decade of this century turned out to be way more apocalyptic than we thought back in 2000! Remember when we were all breathing a sigh of relief that Y2K didn't happen? The joke's on us. Here's hoping we can look back in 2019 and laugh.

Here's hoping we can look back in 2010 and laugh! Or at least, smile ruefully.
It's true, Roland, this has been a rough decade.
