Front-Ranger:
Very high on my agenda, thank you for the review, friend!

I liked it. I don't know how historically accurate it was. But, who cares? It was a great story. I admire the director and writer for tackling this great tumult of a time in the early years of Christianity in Alexandria, Egypt. Rupert Evans, the actor who played Synesius, a bishop and pupil of Hypatia, reminded me eerily of Heath. The supporting actors were very good, and Rachel Weisz was transcendent as Hypatia. A couple of her scenes were breathtaking to me. I also liked the music by Dario Marianelli. It was not the discordant music that I've heard in so many movies lately (I didn't like the music in The Kids are All Right).

I especially liked the views from space of the earth and Africa. Recently I saw Hubble, an IMAX film, so these views really connected the two for me and gave me a window into the mind of an astronomer/scientist/philosopher like Hypatia.

He reminded me of a very young Brad Pitt.  ;D  From everything I read, it's very accurate - as far as we can tell.  Obviously, all her records were destroyed or not kept, and basically we only have what other people wrote about her and even the history of the time is iffy.  No one knows what happened to Orestes.  After her death, he just up and vanished - did he leave?  Get murdered?  No one knows.
