Front-Ranger:
When I was in the British Isles I was amazed at the diversity of the trees...here we just have aspen and evergreens primarily. Is wattle wood used for fencing in Australia, Rob?

brianr:
I guess it could be used for fencing. Some varieties are used for furniture and historically bush huts were made of wattle and daub. There are at least 960 varieties of wattle in Australia. It can be very invasive in the wrong areas and become a pest. For instance the Cootamundra (a town in southern NSW)wattle  is very colourful but has become a pest in the areas near Sydney.
The Australian emblem is the Golden wattle or Acacia pycnantha. However it is a nuisance in Western Australia.

optom3:
You have educated me. Lots of very old houses in England, have walls made of wattle and daub. I had never given any thought to its derivation, now I know  :)

CellarDweller:
Hiya Rob!

Hope that you're feeling better!

dejavu:
Glad you're okay, Rob.  Sorry the shoulder is still hurting.
