Lynne:
Could be some variety of magnolia; Paul has recently educated me that they come in many more varieties than what I usually think of - giant white flowers with shiny deep green leaves...There are some with pink blossoms blooming along the streets in his neighborhood in Boston...no leaves yet, but this one looks similar from the picture

good night David

The tree with the dark shiny leaves sounds like a southern Magnolia. Dad has one of those in his front yard. It gets big creamy white flowers during the late spring and summer. They are almost as big as dinner plates. The tree in the picture might be a magnolia Lynne. But the flowers are very small. The magnolia across the street has pink flowers on it, but they are bigger than the flowers in that picture. But they are also smaller than the flowers on Dad's magnolia tree. :-\

We have lots of different kinds of magnolia trees here though, so you might be correct Lynne. :)
