Thanks for posting this, John.  :)

Mandy21:
Yes, thanks, that was an enlightening article, John.  My personal hopes are that Charles abdicates the throne when his mother passes, and it moves on to Wills, and now Kate, to continue the line.  I think that Diana was a huge positive, emotional influence on the way her sons turned out, as opposed to the remote public stoicism of Charles.  I think William will make a great King someday.

I agree, hunnerd percent.  :)

Though I really doubt Charles will abdicate, unless there are extenuating circumstances, such as if he develops some sort of incapacitating health problem. Like the article said, the family is still laboring under the shadow of Edward VIII. And anyway, the Old Lady is hanging on so long, Charles probably won't have many years on the throne anyway.  :-\

And I guess I must say that in a way I really do admire Camilla. Doubtless she had a pretty good idea of the shitstorm she was in for when she married Charles. I can well imagine that we over here don't see even a fraction of what the British public sees, but from what I have seen of her, it appears to me that she practically defines "grace under pressure." I know I couldn't take what she's had to take, so I have to admire her for that.

I'm a republican in the opposing-monarchy-on-general-principle meaning of that word, but I wouldn't miss the wedding for anything. It's HUGE entertainment, the biggest show in many a year. (Waaaay bigger than the very lovely wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden last year.)

All the grand pomp and circumstance, the cheering crowds, the ancient customs, the wedding dress REVEAL!!  ;D, the commenters falling over themselves with purple language, the silly interviews of all and sundry, the various guests and their clothes and *hats*, the carriage and the family of the groom (what *is* Camilla wearing?!? Etc etc) and not to forget the OMG!Romance and that inevitable kiss on the castle balcony - yep. It'll be great fun watching it and snarking about it (and feeling a bit sappy.... they're a good-looking couple after all).

Anyone seen the t-mobile spoof of the wedding?  It looks hysterical.
