My Australian friends say the same
They go on the long trip every few years, even though they are in their 70s now. I think that's terrific.

I am 73  ;D
I try to go every year. This year I only went to North America. It was just over 13 hours from Auckland to Vancouver but I had an hour and a half flight from Dunedin to Auckland first. Then two days later I had 3 hours flying from Vancouver to Toronto, Then it was 3 days in the train back to Jasper which I enjoyed much more.
I later used overnight ferries to get to Alaska but had to fly back eventually to San Francisco in a series of short flights. Then it was 12 hours back to Auckland and another flight down to Dunedin. It is a bit of a bummer living at the bottom of the world.  I was away 7 weeks. Next year I am considering flying to London and staying 5 or 6 weeks.

That's great! I'm planning to go to North America next year  ;D We want to visit friends and in California near SF and then hit the road to Yellowstone, Yosemite and Bryce Canyon. We plan to spend 4 or 5 weeks there. I'm really looking forward to it. It's been ages since I've been to the U.S., because it's expensive with the flights from Germany.
