Super-loud restaurants: WHAT DID YOU SAY?!

After reading that article, I think you're both right, Sophia and Jeff.  What's a diner to do?  Get earplugs, I guess.  :P

I would suggest using one's cell phone to carry on a conversation with one's fellow diners,  ;D except that I can't hear my cell phone when there is a lot of background noise.  :(

Maybe this is what texting is really for.  ;D

I tune musical instruments for a living. My hearing is critical. I avoid loud places like the plague. Years ago we had a restaurant here called The Sunset Tearoom, which served delicious food prepared which was by culinary school students and beautifully presented. Because they were students, the prices were very reasonable. The place was wonderfully still and peaceful, and there was no place better to calm down and enjoy a pleasant leisurely dinner with friends. A new owner took over the place and turned it into a trendy, snooty, noisy place filled with stainless steel, pretentious lighting. They were out of business in six months.

I've found a nice place that is almost as nice. It's never crowded or noisy, and the Asian Fusion food is quite good and reasonably-priced. And it doesn't hurt that I've seen Mario Lopez there twice with his sister!  :P :o

ASL and lip-reading would help, too.  ;D
