New York: there's a new treat in town

(1/1)

Penthesilea:
The New Yorkers now are treated to a new specialty:

Whut? A plate of classic spaghetti? What's new about that you may ask.

But then, it's not spaghetti. It's not noodles at all. It's an ice-cream sundae! O0
We call it simply Spaghettieis (spaghetti ice-cream).

Invented in the 1960ies in Mannheim, Germany, by an Italian, it is long regarded a beloved Kulturgut (cultural asset) and well-known all over Germany. Now you New Yorkers can have a taste of it at Dolce Gelateria in the West Village.

Spaghettieis is such a banal but heavenly thing for me I can't believe you poor Americans are deprived of it. But then, we don't have sweet potato fries or Cheetos Crunchy here in Germany.

It's made with a decent sized dollop of whipped cream, which is buried under a heap of vanilla ice-cream. The spaghetti-like look comes from pressing the ice-cream through a Spätzlespresse (potato ricer). Add strawberry sauce and coconut flakes standing in for tomato sauce and grated cheese - et voilà. :D
