Free Fall - Freier Fall
tforster:
I liked FrierFall very much. Another great film is Marco Berger's "Hawaii" ... I've watched it three times...
morrobay:
I watched the trailer for Hawaii and didn't think it went anywhere, but it has excellent reviews on Amazon so I'll probably give it a try. Thanks for the rec.
morrobay:
I watched Free Fall again, and this time noticed more similarities to Brokeback - lots of similarities, in fact. The music seemed similar to me, both when things seem to be spinning out of Marc's control, and in their intimate moments. Marc's girlfriend comes up behind him on the bed like Alma did, and he turns and kisses her. And of course, the first night in the tent, although this is the first time up against the car (seemed a little unrealistic, more so even than Brokeback). In the beginning all their meetings are in the forest, out in the middle of nowhere, but eventually they go to Kay's apartment. And the fight they have near the end reminds me of Ennis breaking down; although Kay does come out and say "Don't you get it? I love you."
morrobay:
Maybe I'm getting just a little obsessed with this movie; and noticed another thing similar to Brokeback: bookends, beginning and ending.
And the title even ties in w/this:
The mountain boiled with demonic energy, glazed with flickering broken-cloud light, the wind combed the grass and drew from the damaged krummholz and slit rock a bestial drone. As they descended the slope Ennis felt he was in a slow-motion, but headlong, irreversible fall.
morrobay:
Oh, and Marc gets a phone call while he's at home with his girlfriend so he takes the call in another room, and when he hears it's Kay, he smiles - but just a little, which reminds me of Ennis looking out the window when Jack gets out of the truck.
