No, I mean Americans put the quotation marks outside the period (or comma). I highlighted the t as well to make it more visible. Anyway, Brits would say "the quotation mark should go inside the period".

They also just use a single mark, 'if I remember correctly'.

Oh, I think I remember that, too. That also is more logical -- quoting a quote within a quote with two marks.

Plus it takes up less space. Newspapers use ' in headlines for things that would be " in the story itself.
