Good one! Now, of course, I'll be trying to think of other candidates.

Many occupations are words that combine the activity with an R, I'm realizing (serve and server, etc.), but the vast majority don't make completely unrelated words (like MINE and MAYO) if you remove the R.

That's for sure. Even though I knew the purples, I had to pause and think about each for a sec -- there's no way I would have figured that out on my own. I used Paul's trick on my fourth guess, although before I thought of doing that I was going to guess NURSE, so whether the trick was a good idea or not depends on whether you're empirical about Wordle guesses rather than placing some trust in intuition. My intuition only kicks in when I choose not to guess words that seem too unusual for Wordle. Wordle plays fairer than Connections, because it rarely uses words nobody's ever heard of.
