Oh yeah, I've always wondered why he's hangin wood up there.  If they had bacon, why does he only mention beans?

Funny--I knew early on it was food (if not bacon) because why else hoist it in the air out of the clutches of bears (that exact intention is spelled out somewhere, in story or screenplay or sumptin'), but it never occured to me to wonder why whatever it was didn't preclude the need for Elk supplements--

They either et it up fast or it went bad, I reckon. (Didn't look too appetizin' in any case.)
