Book Club: What Shall We Read Next?
RouxB:
I vote for "Accordian Crimes" or "That Old Ace in the Hole" both Annie Proulx.
Ellemeno:
I voted for Like water for Chocolate, because that's the one on the list I've been meaning to read the longest. But I tend to be a dutiful book club member and read the chosen book, whether I myself would have picked it or not.
(BTW I am enjoying The Virginian quite a bit. On Chapter 16)
Front-Ranger:
Cool, Clarissa. You are actually ahead of me. I read in spurts. Please go make a comment about the Virginian, before that thread falls off the 1st page of Anything Goes, LOL!
Daniel:
I would like to throw in my two cents.... Does it have to be fiction?
I'd appreciate a reading of The Conference of the Birds by Farrid al-din Attar... This book club idea was a neat one... Sorry I haven't had much time to read The Virginian.... but this other book is apparently very short and the Penguin classics translation is in poetic form.
Kd5000:
If you want, read the wikipedia entry for The Age of Innocence. See if there any similarity to BBM. Of course, it's straight love, but it's all about doing your duty or going after someone that social conventions of 1870's NY say you can't have. The rich had rules back then. ;)
