STOCKTON GALA DAYS
Natalie Merchant/ Christian Burial Music © 1992

that summer fields grew high
with foxglove stalks and ivy
wild apple blossoms everywhere
emerald green like none I have seen
apart from dreams that escape me
there was no boy as warm as you

how I've learned to please
to doubt myself in need
you'll never, you'll never know

that summer fields grow high
we made garland crowns in hiding
pulled stems of flowers from my hair
blue in the stream like none I have seen
apart from dreams that escape me
there was no *boy as bold as you

how I've learned to please
to doubt myself in need
you'll never, you'll never know
you'll never know...
violet  serene like none I have seen
apart from dreams that escape me
there was no boy as warm as you
how I've learned to please
to doubt myself in need
you'll never, you'll never know
you'll never know...

that summer fields grow high
we had wildflower fever
we had to lay down where they grow
how I've learned to hide, how I've locked inside
you'd be surprised if shown
but you'll never, you'll never know

*In the original song it's girl not boy.
The song as it's sung wouldn't work but change one little word and what a difference it makes!

power of two
now the parking lot is empty everyone's gone someplace i pick you up and in the trunk i've packed a cooler and a 2 day suitcase cause there's a place we like to drive way out in the country live miles out of the city limit we're singing and your hand's upon my knee so we're okay we're fine baby i'm here to stop your crying chase all the ghosts from your head i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed smarter than the tricks played on your heart we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart adding up the total of a love that's true multiply life by the power of two you know the things that i am afraid of i'm not afraid to tell and if we'd ever leave a legacy it's that we loved each other well i've seen the shadows of so many people trying on the treasures of youth a road that fancy and fast ends in a fatal crash and i'm glad we got off to tell you the truth cause we're okay we're fine baby i'm here to stop your crying chase all the ghosts from your head i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed smarter than the tricks played on your heart we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart adding up the total of a love that's true multiply life by the power of two all the shiny little trinkets of temptation (make new friends) something new instead of something old (but keep the old) all you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface (and remember what is gold) and it's fools gold fools gold fools gold (what is gold what is gold) and now we're talking about a difficult thing and your eyes are getting wet but i took us for better and i took us for worse and don't you ever forget it is the steel bars between me and a promise suddenly bend with ease and the closer i'm bound in love to you the closer i am to free so we're okay we're fine baby i'm here to stop your crying chase all the ghosts from your head i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed smarter than the tricks played on your heart we'll look at them together then we'll take ‘em apart adding up the total of a love that's true multiply life by the power of two

This song is by the Indigo Girls. They are awsome.
Not only are they a great singing duo they are also Lesbian's who are partners!

I LOVE the Indigo Girls!  I saw them several years ago at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham, they were the support act for 10,000 Maniacs (that was one good concert!!!)

My favourite song is Southlands in the Springtime!

Thats awesome Susie!
Thats a great song.
They are from here where I live. I used to go see them at a local bar before they got famous.
Atlanta has a great music scene. If you like the girls, you'll probably like Michelle Malone.
She's another local favorite. She opened for the girls a lot here locally but she never got the exposure that the girls got. I think it's a shame cause she is just as good. The good thing is we can still see her play locally!  ;D

Why does THAT make me cry, too? Hell, I´ve never been crying as much as I am since BBM. Feels good. Weird, huh?
