He threw the report card onto the counter and went back to his newspaper, the ad for the small ranch catching his eye again, and he turned his thoughts to that long-held dream. But as he let his mind wander with sweet images, he paused to wonder about the difference between keeping your head in the sand or high up in the clouds.

He cringed inwardly every time Alma said the words, which seemed to be at the drop of a hat to everyone she came across.  Apparently, she was a fiancée and she told him that he was one, too, only with one less "e" whatever the hell that meant.  He sure didn't have use for such damn fancy sounding nonsense.

And then the way she kept "practicing" her soon-to-be name on any scrap of paper within reach.  "Alma del Mar," "Mrs. Alma del Mar," and even, "Mrs. Ennis del Mar." 

"Don't look right," he kept thinking.  "Don't look right at all."
