A nuance I think we may have all missed (humor)
Ellemeno:
Every one of us has missed an important nuance of this groundbreaking film:
As Ennis is sitting at the Twists' kitchen table, over and over again we have heard Mrs. Twist's offers of food and beverage.
We've all wondered why there is only one cherry showing in that cake on the counter. Today, seeing it in the theater for the 20somethingeth time, I suddenly understood - it isn't a piece of "cherry cake" she's offering. That one cherry is on purpose - it's "pieceofcherry" cake. Cake deliberately made with one piece of cherry. Must be Pentecostal or something, I dunno.
I knew you would want this rectifying info right away, so I stopped here at an internet coffee house on my way home, to report to you.

I actually saw that after my third or fourth viewing - the one cherry, at least the one we can see in the slice of cake. But I always thought there was more than one cherry, we can just see the one. And that the cake is cherry-flavored. :-\

Grace, thanks for this reply. It shows me the first wording of my post wasn't clear. I've modified it to say more what I mean.
Shuggy:
They're bone-poor, but one cherry? And what did she do with the other piece?

Good question, Shuggy. Her husband took that 40 years ago. [rimshot!] :-*
