I would, however, rescue a German shepherd from a pound.  I've done that, in fact.  This one:

Our family dog when I was a child, and during my growing-up years, was a beautiful German Shepherd named Toots (and we had a cat named Priscilla!). She was darker than Beauty, nearly all black, looked like a big wolf, but she had the most beautiful, gentle personality. She was my best friend. We went everywhere together. I still love German Shepherds to this day.
