A song that makes me think of Brokeback Mountain

It's "Wildfire", the opening track in the 1975 album Blue Sky-Night Thunder by Michael (Martin) Murphey. Sad, mysterious, and eerie, this Western-themed song poetically suggests love lost and hopefully regained in a life beyond our present earthly tribulation--much as one might imagine Ennis dreaming of reunion with Jack once death has closed his tired, battered eyes for the last time. Here are the lyrics:

She comes down from Yellow Mountain
On a dark flat land she rides
On a pony she named Wildfire
With a whirlwind by her side
On a cold Nebraska night

Oh, they say she died one winter
When there came a killing frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
Busted down his stall
In a blizzard he was lost

She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire

By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot owl howlin' by my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go

We'll be riding Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire

On Wildfire we're going to ride her
We're gonna leave sod bustin' behind
Get these hard times right on out of our minds
Riding Wildfire

It's funny you put that since that song was used to describe "Jake's" mom in Bubble Boy.

saucycobblers:
One of the saddest songs ever, and it's only 1 minute and 23 seconds long! 'Bookends Theme' by Simon and Garfunkel. Simple acoustic & beautiful harmony... always gets me going.

A time it was, and what a time it was,
It was a time of innocence,
A time of confidences.
Long ago it must be,
I have a photograph.
Preserve your memories,
They're all that's left you.

I always think of Ennis in the trailer looking at the postcard when I listen to it now :'(

Separate Lives ~ Phil Collins

You called me from the room in your hotel
All full of romance for someone that you met
And telling me how sorry you were, leaving so soon
And that you miss me sometimes when you’re alone in your room
Do I feel lonely too?

You have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
We can’t go on just holding on to time
Now that we’re living separate lives

Well I held on to let you go
And if you lost your love for me, well you never let it show
There was no way to compromise
So now we’re living (living)
Separate lives

Ooh, it’s so typical - love leads to isolation
So you build that wall (build that wall)
Yes, you build that wall (build that wall)
And you make it stronger

Well you have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
Some day I might (I might) find myself looking in your eyes
But for now, we’ll go on living separate lives
Yes for now, we’ll go on living
Separate lives
