A song that makes me think of Brokeback Mountain
Katie77:
Beautiful words....I'm heading to Limewire right now to try and find it......thank you....
ednbarby:
This part is particularly fitting:
The curtains still dance with the wind and the sky
The sun'll be coming up soon
But I just can't sleep for thinkin' of you
Here alone with the moon
I'll never hear poetic references to the earth, wind or moon quite the same way again. Another gift (or is it a curse? ;)) this movie has given me.

Wow, that's beautiful. This movie has also made me look at old songs differently, I used to listen to Kate Bush a lot, this one is especially fitting..
It doesn't hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.
And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
Say, If I only could, oh...
You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.
Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It's you and me won't be unhappy.
And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
Say, if I only could, oh...
You,
It's you and me,
It's you and me won't be unhappy.
"C'mon, baby, c'mon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh..."
And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.
say if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.
So if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.
So if I only could
Be running up that hill
With no problems...
"If I only could, I'd be running up that hill.
If I only could, I'd be running up that hill."

I heard an instrumental piece over the weekend that I knew immediately I would have to cite in our thread here. It is a short guitar composition called 'Cowboy Song', which was written and performed by a man named Brian Keane. It has been featured in two television documentaries by Ric Burns, the 1995 "The Way West" and the 2002 "Ansel Adams: A Documentary Film", respectively, and is available in the soundtrack CD's to both those productions (the former released through Shanachie, and the latter via Green Linnet Records).
Keane's lovely little piece (about two minutes and fifteen seconds in duration, and which should not be confused with the 1976 Thin Lizzy rock classic also titled 'Cowboy Song') reminded me somewhat of Gustavo's work on Brokeback Mountain, but rather than displaying the plangent, melancholy undertone of the Argentinean composer's efforts, possesses a lilting, gentle quality that is no less poignant for evoking a happier mood.
I found an official website for Keane that interested parties may wish to consult, and the CD soundtracks featuring 'Cowboy Song' are available through Amazon. Here is the composer's website:

Happy musical trails to you all,

This isn't exactly in keeping with the nature of this thread, as this is a song used in Brokeback Mountain, but it occurred to me that nowhere on our site are the lyrics to this classic rock song reproduced. I think this is an oversight that should be corrected, and this thread is as good a place to share them as any.
'Melissa' is one of my favorite songs, and I was delighted to hear it when first seeing the film on February 18th, 2006. It became my very own BBM soundtrack for those first few traumatized days, when I couldn't get the film's closing image out of my mind, and 'Melissa' somehow ensconced itself as background music to that memory. The song always tugged at my heart-strings, but as mental accompaniment to this devastatingly beautiful closing sequence, it became heartrending. I got a little choked up just transcribing the lyrics for inclusion here. Here they are, courtesy of Gregg Allman and the Allman Brothers Band, on whose 1972 LP, Eat a Peach, the song first appeared:
Crossroads seem to come and go...yeah
The gypsy flies from coast to coast
Knowing many, loving none
Bearing sorrow, having fun
But back home he'll always run
To sweet Melissa
Freight train--each car looks the same, all the same
And no one knows the gypsy's name
No one hears his lonely sighs
There are no blankets where he lies
In his deepest dreams the gypsy flies
To sweet Melissa
Again the morning's come
Again he's on the run
Sunbeams shining through his hair
Appearing not to have a care
Pick up your gear and gypsy, roll on...
Roll on...
Crossroads, will you ever let him go?
Or will you hide the dead man's ghost
Or will he lie beneath the clay
Or will his spirit float away
But I know that he won't stay
Without Melissa
Yes, I know that he won't stay...
Without Melissa
