A song that makes me think of Brokeback Mountain

<< < (19/71) > >>

nic:
Some of these songs I don't know & some I don't like but even so the BBM connection can be seen & is sometimes very powerful.

The lyrics below are from Bruce Springsteen's I'm On Fire & remind me of the last passages of the short story where A Proux writes that Ennis woke up sometimes with the pillows wet, sometimes the sheets.

Sometimes its like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the
Middle of my head
Only you can cool my desire
Im on fire

Toast:
Read this
and think of Ennis
looking sideways as he
prepares to ask Alma Jr.
if her husband-to-be really loves her.

Paul Simon - Father and Daughter
from his brand new CD SURPRISE

If you leap awake
In the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second
You cant remember where you are
Just open your window
And follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain
Where we counted every falling star

I believe the light that shines on you
Will shine on you forever
And though I cant guarantee
Theres nothing scary hiding under your bed
I’m gonna stand guard
Like a postcard of a Golden Retriever
And never leave till I leave you
With a sweet dream in your head

Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loves his daughter more than I love you

Trust your intuition
Its just like going fishing
You cast your line
And hope you get a bite
But you dont need to waste your time
Worrying about the market place
Try to help the human race
Struggling to survive its harshest night

Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loves his daughter more than I love you

Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loves his daughter more than I love you

Thanks Paul Simon
His age matches with Ennis and Jack.

Paul Simon's New CD - SURPRISE

ps Now I have listened to the song
a bit disappointed by the arrangement
but the lyrics are superb for Ennis Del Mar

isabelle:
Toast, this is a very fitting song indeed. I believe Ennis would have said so much if he had learnt how to speak!

ednbarby:
Here's another one I heard yesterday at my gym that I used to think was just the sappiest song ever but that suddenly struck a BBM chord:

Can You Feel the Love Tonight? (lyrics by Tim Rice)

There's a calm surrender to the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world can be turned away
An enchanted moment, and it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior just to be with you

And can you feel the love tonight
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

There's a time for everyone if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours

(Refrain)

isabelle:
Don't worry Barb, I have felt more soppy and sappy than ever before (before I turned 16 anyhow) since seeing BBM.
I don't know this song, but I like the lyrics too (told ya  ;))
