I saw Spider-Man 3 yesterday as promised. And as I suspected, I was underwhelmed. Way too much of Tobey and way too little of Topher. Topher Grace was really the only one worth watching in the whole damned thing. And J.K. Simmons. After that, everyone else just phoned it in. Blech. Tobey's whiney voice is wearing way thin, and when he turned into a "bad boy," it came off like Crispin Glover with a few extra pounds and plenty of cigarettes instead of someone truly menacing.
Oh, by the way, it turns out Kirsten Dunst has really a very nice singing voice. Beyond that, she was just O.K.
I dunno - there just seemed to be a lot of missed opportunities. Why not cast someone truly scary to be the Sandman - like Michael Chiklis or someone of that ilk? Sure, he can still have a good heart underneath it all, but why make him so benign that you can only feel sorry for him the whole time? And to think what they could have done with a character like that - have him forgetting where his sick daughter really lives because of his transformation and visiting other children's rooms at night and scaring the shit out of them... Maybe that's just too precious, but I was kinda hoping for it, anyway. And like I said, there was way too little of Topher. He's a great actor, so you got the full characterization with just a few scenes, but as such, he left you wanting more. Every time he wasn't on the screen, which was unfortunately most of the time, everything was just a bit drearier.
And the action sequences weren't as thrilling as they used to be. It's almost like they were too slick. You could see they spent a boatload of money on them, but they didn't get my heart pounding, like, say, the action sequences in Casino Royale that were grittier and more urgent and real.
I give it a 6.5 out of 10. Meh.

I thought it was a waste of money because of two of the most awful actors around these days: Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. I don't ever want to see them again in a movie. Alone or together, they are just AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH....
Kind of liked James Franco. Would have liked to have seen some heavy kissing sessions between him and Tobey (I did feel some more-than-just-friends tension there or was I just channeling Brokeback?) to make it at least worth the 10 euros we paid per person. My boyfriend didn't agree on that, but he did agree with me that it was a very un-noteworthy movie.

On E!, I saw a bit of an interview with Franco where a scene was shown where Tobey or he was giving the other mouth to mouth resucitation. The interviewer asked him about the scene. Franco just smiled and said he was glad it was cut. The scene had been the director's decision because "Brokeback Mountain was getting all those awards at the time, so he added the scene." Franco went on to say it was uncomfortable to film and he and Tobey never touched mouths.

Well I chose, the wait and see the cd. I have done that with all the others.
I thought about going to see it. I saw Toby on late night and he was adorable, so i thought i might see it...But my grandaughter 20 went and saw it friday night, and when i asked her how it was.. She said it was long...not exactly a glowing review..Since we went and watched Zodiac together, and we didnt think it was too long...I decided to let that be my guide. janice

I bought the DVD for the other two and I have to say #1 is a superior movie to #2 in my opinion. Of course I just cannot stand Kirsten Dunst anymore and she has been shooting her mouth off lately so there is that to color things. The reviews so far have been very mixed for this one so we'll see maybe I'll wait for it to come on HBO and then if I like it OK I'll buy the DVD.
