Title: A Night At The Museum cute Brokeback Reference.
Post by: Flashframe777 on January 03, 2007, 10:13:09 pm
Hey People,

"A Night At The Museum" has a cute little Brokeback Mountain reference as the miniature Roman leader Octavius says to miniature Cowboy Soldier Jedediah (played by Owen Wilson), "Save yourself!" - Jedediah responds, "I ain't gonna quit you!."

I got a kick out of it.

LOVE it!  Now that's the kind of reference/parody I appreciate and enjoy.  :)

(I doubt they had any references to Trash - I mean Crash - in it.  The important thing is I'm not bitter.)

I finally saw this movie after visiting the actual museum in the movie, the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Loved the bromance between Octavius and Jedediah (played by Owen Wilson). One thing I wondered about: "Giantor" Larry Daly (played by Ben Stiller) came in god-like to chastise the cowboys and ancient Romans for their constant warring and aggression. Jedediah answered "We're men, that's what we do." Is this some kind of statement about man's essential brutish nature? Then Larry managed to get them to stop warring against each other by focusing them on saving the museum and its inhabitants. The answer, it seems the film was saying, was to distract man by some kind of altruistic mission in order to save him from himself.

Yes, I know it's just an escapist comedy but it made me wonder anyway. Anybody else? I understand the sequel, set in the Smithsonian, is just as good or better.

Here's one of the exchanges:

Jedediah: I told you, I don't like to be manhandled!
Larry: No, I will manhandle you, Jedediah! Now listen, guys, what is your problem, huh? Why can't you just get along?
Jedediah: Look, we're men. We fight, okay? That's what we do!
Octavius: It's kinda how we pass the time.
