Wow. I am surprised to read this in Slate. J.K. Rowling has instituted copyright infringement proceedings against the makers of the Potter Lexicon, a fan's guide to the Potter Universe. Slate contributor Tim Wu argues why Rowling is wrong:

The authors of fan guides, like house elves, rarely get famous or rich. They deserve legal credit for their modest contributions, not the Wizengamot.
