That looks like a bird call to me Dottie!

I remember these when I was a little kid. My Grandfather gave me one once. It squeaked when the knob was turned. It sounded very much like a bird.  :D

The only thing is, my bird call was only a few inches long. I don't think I've ever heard of one that was 10 inches!!

Maybe they use it to call BIG birds! Like eagles!!  :D

Dottie is that the way the thing looks,?  Or is that a cut away view...?

That is a true rendering of the item.  The cut away is part of the function and design.  :)

Hmmm, it's a guess, but I'll go with Musket & Flintlock Ball Maker. There seems to be some sorta metallic grey residue on the inside, perhaps a result of the lead in the balls, if you'll excuse the expression!  ;)  :)

Do you all really think it's an olive stuffer? I don't understand. How would it stuff the olive? If you put an olive in there, and then mash down on the handle it would squish the olive!

Wouldn't it?  ???

I still think it's a bird caller. It's a bird caller for really big birds, like eagles and hawks.

OK OK.... The Answer is ......................................................

This device is a bottle corker for home wine making.  The filled bottle is placed in the indentation on the bottom of the corker, then the damp cork is placed in the opening and the plunger compresses it and inserts the cork in to the neck of the bottle where it expands creating a seal.

Officially by votes we do not have a winner.  But Susiebell wins by default for figuring it out and posting her answer (http://bestsmileys.com/tropheys/3.gif)

I've changed my mind!  I think you have a bottle at one end, the cork in the widget, then the squasher thingy pushes the cork through the hole and into the bottle.

Yep, it's a Bottle Corker!  Final Answer!

Oh no it won't let me change my answer ... shucks!!
Yeah Susiebell! (http://bestsmileys.com/cheering/1.gif)
