Title: BBM "euro" bumper sticker
Post by: EnnisLovesJack on May 01, 2006, 08:48:50 pm
Hey brokies!

Anyone interested in getting some BBM bumper stickers made? I'm talkin' the white ovals with the black trim, featuing black initials inside, standing for a place name, country, or neighborhood. Our initials would be BBM, of course.

IMDB poster lauragigs suggested this in an old IMDB thread in March. I saw it a couple weeks ago, when visiting the "old country," and loved the idea. I found a website online where you can make these oval stickers, in small quantities. You can buy just one, for $4.95. I believe shipping is free. Price goes down the more you order. For example, if we order, say, 20 at a time, the price goes down to $2 per sticker. Pretty sweet.

I'm gonna make myself one, soon as I decide which of the endless possibilities of phrase combo and placement I want. If anyone is interested in going in on a sticker together, let me know. We'd have to reach a concensus of what we want, but we'd each pay less than doing our own. Or if people just want to make their own, here's the website.www.makestickers.com (http://www.makestickers.com)

You can customize the sticker in various ways. Add a little phrase to the rim of the oval -at the top, bottom, or both. Or insert a small phrase inside the oval, under the BBM. Here're some I like:

top/bottom: Jack Twist? Jack nasty!/Jack Nasty loves you!
top/bottom: what're you waitin' for cowboy, a matin' call/'Cause I didn't come here to fish
top:(Ol') Brokeback got me good. (with or without the "Ol'"; not sure which I like better)
top OR bottom: Brokeback native

SPECIAL NOTE: I'd love to find ndatmo, and get her permission to use her awesome Cowboy Ettiqutte line, one of my all-time favorites:

Hooray! Keren you've found what we've been looking for! I remember way back in the old PT board when David Thomas suggested this bumpersticker thing too. I like the whole second row of International Style Stickers in the oval 4 x 6 kind. I think some of the ideas you have are great but are probably too wordy to fit in the space we have to use.

How about for the text, just "Brokies of the World Unite!"

or, I do like "Brokeback Got Me Good." (or got us good)

I love the ndatmo one, but it's so long. Janice is her name, anyone have a way to get in touch with Janice?

Where have all the brokies gone, long time passing.....

Count me in tho! I'm impressed. I don't have a car anymore, but I'll take one.

Keren, I love this idea, but I think I would want a plain BBM oval with no otehr words.  That seems "realer" to me.

I am PMing you with ndatmo's contact info.

I like this idea, I'd go in on it!

I love Janice's quote, but I think if we are going for the ovals just plain BBM would work best...

On second thought, i just previewed one with Janice's quote in the lines of the oval and it looks really good...

Either sounds good to me.  Count me in on whatever y'all decide.

Oh, and check out these two I just had custom-made:

I don't have a car, but I am interested. Do you think I should just stick it to my ass and prance around?! The sad this is I probably would! ::)

Hi Gang,

I actually bought a BBM euro-style bumper sticker on ebay for 4.95 about a month ago.
It had "Brokeback Mountain, Wyoming" in small print underneath, which I thought was unnecessary.

I agree with Elle, that a plain one with no wording would be best, more "authentic", and would cause a smile to those "in the know".

Hey kids! Thanks for the great response.

Actually, I agree. I like the plain BBM oval best.

I'll probably get myself a standard-type bumpersticker, in addition. With something on it. For those interested, we could do one of each. I pm'd Ndatmo at IMDB. If she gives us the go ahead, I might put that on it, or else some variation on the Jack Nasty thing. Wonder if I'd get arrested with a Jack Fuckin' Twist sticker on my car...? Hm....

So I guess I'll do a head count here....Who wants a plain BBM oval sticker? If you want more than one, please specify amount.

   Whoowee! Yeah!

I'll take two plain, and one sesame. Wait, that's wrong. Just two plain.

Thanks, ELJ for organizing.

BTW, how to deal with you getting paid?

I've never had a bumper sticker before. I'm scared about putting on one. If I wanted to take it off, does it take off the paint or anything? What about putting it on the back window? Does it come off easily?

hey sparkle_motion, i understand your hesitation. i haven't put anything on my bumper, either. but i do have a bumper crop ( ) of stickers on my rear windhield. I put them around the perimeter so they don't obstruct my view.

it used to come off easy, now it's like seeing the pope.
i wouldn't try removing a sticker from your bumper. the paint under the sticker would look different from the paint on the rest of the bumper, which will have been exposed to sun that whole time, and be more faded. plus it could damage the paint.

i haven't tried taking any stickers off my window yet, but I've heard with a razor blade, some caution, and a LOT of patience, you can get them off.

I'll take one of the plain oval ones, is that what you guys decided on? How do we pay?

I thought those ovals were the type of sticker meant for your windshield? Not a sticker, but the decal kind (anyone know what I'm talking about?).  I have a couple of those on my windshield and they come of with a blow dryer and a scraper really easily...

so, does anyone know if it is an actual sticker or a decal?

Here in the states, anyway, I always see them in the upper or lower left corner of the rear window.  I plan to put mine in the upper left, and my "I didn't vote for his brother, either" (meaning Jeb OR George Bush) in the lower left and my "There ain't no reins on this one" in the lower right.  All on the outside of my rear window.  They come off very easily that way, so if I change cars or change my mind about any of them (doubtful, and I'll never remove the BBM oval) I can take them right off and save them (I save the paper with the smooth surface they come on in my glove compartment).

Yes, 'tis true.  I am in love with a fictional character.  Two of them, actually.  And not only are they fictional, they're gay!  Am I a masochist, or what?  ;)

I'm pretty sure they are stickers, not decals. I don't think this company makes decals, thought that sure would be nice.....

southendr- you're very welcome (for the organizing)! glad there is interest!  ;D

why don't y'all who want stickers pm me your mailing address, the number of stickers you would like.

as for payment, i'll have to figure that out. does anyone know how one can set themselves up to be paid through paypal? I've only ever used it to make payments. is there a fee to set that up? i'd say send me a check, but i don't know how small a check banks will cash. anyone know what the standard minimum is?

i'll check back in here tomorrow. sleep tight, brokies!

'Kay, cowboys and cowgirls!  Thanks for everyone's support and enthusiasm.  ;)

I checked with my bank and they have no minimum for check deposits. I could cash a one cent check, no problem. But I generally prefer the million dollar kind.

Thanks to everyone who sent me their orders and addresses (Paul, Jenny, Lynne, Barb). For everyone else: Please get your orders in by midnight on Monday (when we all turn into pumpkins). Once all orders are in, I will calculate the per-sticker cost. I'll place the order Tuesday morning, Pacific time. Then I'll pm all you lovely brokies with my address and how much to send me. I am going with checks, instead of paypal. It'll be simpler for all involved. I'm asking for $2 for S&H for all U.S. orders, which will cover the protective cardboard mailers (to keep your stickers from getting bent) and postage.

If you live outside the U.S., I'm not sure how to work it, what with different currencies and all. We'll have to figure it out.

sending love and whiskey 'round the campfire,  :-*

Uhh, is that "I didn't vote for his brother, either" supposed to have anything to do with Brokeback? Cause I'm failing to make the connection.

Nope.  It's about Jeb and George Bush.  Jeb is the governor of Florida (where I live).  I put it on my car for the first day, along with my "There ain't no reins on this one" sticker.  Three different people, all women, honked at me either from the back or the side, and when I looked at them, gave me a big smile and thumbs up or OK sign.  Trouble is, I can't figure out whether they're Brokies, hate the Bush brothers, or both.  I guess I should try one at a time for a while to do a truly scientific study.  :)

They're gonna be cheaper through the other site, since they discount the stickers based on how many you order.

True. Have you factored in P&P? I know it's very cheap within the US (the very devil to get stuff over here) because it was only $US1 to send a Jack Nasty badge to Jake.
How many people are going to want more than one?

Alright boys and girls! (And those who have yet to make up their minds.  ;) Great line from "Kinky Boots" preview.)

I placed our order today! With a lovely guy in Illinois (actually, all the folks I spoke to there were lovely, all three of 'em!) I'll receive them in 2-10 days. Don't send money yet. Wait till I mail them, so I can tell you exactly how much postage is. I don't wanna overcharge you by guesstimating at this point.

Our lovely "sticker price:"  just $1.65 each!!! :D That's the power of group buying. Just want y'all to know, I'm not making any profit on this. Just making sure we all got the best price by ordering "en masse." And what a good price it is!  ;D

Once I mail them out, I'll be in touch by pm with those who ordered.

Love and yeehaws,
ELJ

Brokie bumper stickes!

I have a pair made up that I give out when I go to the Brokie get togethers.  I also have them on my car.
