Title: The 10 Best Songs of 2007
Post by: Kerry on December 17, 2007, 03:41:12 am

Time magazine has posted its list of the top 10 songs of 2007.

Here's a fun poll for you to enter, where you can tell us what you think of Time's choices.

Pick your favourite 3 songs and tell us why you chose them. Perhaps they have a happy or tragic connotation for you? We'd love to know!

Maybe you disagree completely with Time's choices and have your own favourite 10 songs of 2007. What are they?

Perhaps you agree with the above list but would prioritise it in another order. Tell us!

Have fun!

I liked several of those songs, and some i never heard before...So I went on youtube,
and checked them out...so i picked.
Jigsaw falling into place-radiohead  I like the dreamy quality
1234 -Feist   Its so perfect for what it is, a song by a couple of teens
Hey there Delilah  It is romantic, and sad, and modern.

They are each unique, in regards to the others.  I dont stick to the regular stream as
far as mucic goes...dont care for rap at all, and not going to pay a person to advertise the fact
they are a druggie...just goes against my morals...She has a supremly beautiful voice, too bad
she is like Brittany in her own person.. Rihanna is boring to me.    Ok everyone just rare back
and toss the tomatoes.

Never heard a none of them.

Nor I, Clarissa. Not one!  ::)

I saw the list in Time magazine and thought it may be popular here at BetterMost, where polls about contemporary music and film seem to be quite popular. Seems I was wrong.  :'(

Personally, the closest I get to popular music is Tchaikovsky, so I'm certainly no judge!  :-\

Did I mention, you can listen to all 10 songs at time.com/toptens?

Well, I voted for "Rehab", "Delilah", and "Umbrella".

Although, I have to say, my faves were anything by Daughtry, and "Please Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna.

I do believe my list would be different although I voted for "Hey There Delilah", "Rehab", and "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" in that order. And I actually do have the CDs that these three are on. I may be wrong about the Radiohead one, but I have several of their CDs. I think the worst in the list would have to be "I Get It" by 50 Cent. I think it is time for gangsta rap to retire. "1234" is interesting. "Me Llaman Calle" is interesting also since it reminds of a group you would see just performing somewhere in New York City. Rhianna has much better songs than "Umbrella." It is time also to get away from that same sound that Snow Patrol made famous which is what I hear in "All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem. There are way too many bands out there doing this same sound and they need to brighten and liven it up a bit. "Potential Break Up Song" sounds like it popped out of another time period. Where's Toni Basil with "Mickey" since this song would be more fitting during that time. Same goes for "Baby Fratelli" which sounds like some kind of really bad attempt at doing a punk rock song.

I love "Hey There Delilah"!

Time: 4:03

It's so sweet and simple:

Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it's my disguise
I'm by your side

BTW, there are a couple of funny "Hey There Delilah" parodies on YouTube: especially one called "Hey There Khalilah."

I voted for "Umbrella", too.

That would be my favorite song by far of the ten listed. I agree it is a great song. I made a statement about one of the other songs sounding like it was from a different time period. In some ways "Hey There Delilah" may too, but it seems to me to be more of a song that defies time periods. I think it will last farther into the future than the others.

Is "I get it" the one that starts out "What what what don't kill me only makes me stronger"???

*gag*

puleez! I turn off the radio right there....I am so over the whole "I am a victim of the SYSTEM man..."

it gets a little tiresome...

Me too!!! I have seen some interviews with some of the gangsta rap stars and it is always the same idea. It is this thing about I grew up in the ghetto so now I need to talk about what the system did to me and destroy things more. The thing is that it might be time to do something constructive with the hatred instead of promoting violence, murder, drugs, pimping, and the like. Seeing interviews like that made me just shut down the gangsta rap. Hey these guys are rich now so do something to help, not hurt, the communities you came from. And to make sure I stay on topic here that is the reason the 50 Cent song is not in my top 3. The beginning of "Umbrella" reminds me of that too so I get turned off before Rhianna begins to sing and accordingly it is not in my top 3. And I do like Rhianna!!!

I can't handle anything that repeats the same words over and over....and she drives me nuts with the Ella, ella, ella....remember stuck records? I always want to call the radio station and tell them to jiggle the needle...

Jack, have you heard her latest, "Don't Stop The Music"?  It's all over NYC radio now.

sound quality on this vid is alittle off, but the official one on YouTube as disabled embeding, so I can't post that one here.

This is someones copy of the official vid.  Once the music stops, the station promo comes on, you can stop it there.

Yes, now I like that Chuck. That sounds like the Rhianna I like. What stations do you listen to in NYC? I know several of them have it to where you can listen live on the internet.

Well said, you two.  I agree, I even heard some singer one time say how these 'angry' groups need to get over themselves, especially if they become successful.

"After you make your millions, what do you have to be angry about?"

Meaning, these people are now in a position to do something about certain situations, instead of forever playing the victim and emoting about 'the man keeping them down'.

Jack, here's "Umbrella" from a live performance.  No rap.  (Cute intro, too.)

I don't know any of those songs, Kerry. Maybe I've heard them before and I didn't know it, but none of them are ringing any bells.

My favorite song of 2007 is "No One" by Alicia Keys. :D

Richard, I just posted a new topic where you can post your top ten favorite country songs of 2007. I have thought about doing this since I know many of our members do mainly listen to country music. Your post made me decide for sure. I am going to try and calculate a list of the Top Ten Favorite Country Songs of 2007 as determined by members of Bettermost. Hopefully several people will post lists so I have a lot of data to work with.

OMG, Am I really getting old!? Some of those songs and artists I have never heard of either.

I seems I often do not like the most popular songs anyway. When VH1 does a countdown of the 100 most popular songs of the 80's or 90's, it seems I usually like the songs 50 or above. I do like some very popular groups such as U2 but my tastes may run a little more obscure at times.

I'm out of the loop!  ;D

Hmm, the question is what was the best song? More like which was most annoying.  :-\ They were all very overplayed - everytime you heard them in a store, you wanted to throw something. Or at least I did  ;)

According to news.bbc.co.uk, the biggest selling singles of 2007 in the UK are as follows:

1. Leona Lewis, Bleeding Love

Leona Lewis is just starting to break here in the US.  Her song "Bleeding Love" has been getting airplay on two of NYC's big radio stations, and the video is in regular rotation on VH-1.
