Chicago is a wonderful city, and I am a city girl for sure. Even traveling to the suburbs gives me a bit of the creeps! The city sits on Lake Michigan, which is the size of a small ocean, and the Chicago River runs through it, with drawbridges that actually work and disrupt traffic at the most inopportune timse. Come visit, and I'll give you the official tour.

This is Millenium Park, designed by world -renowned architect Frank Gehry, and about 2 blocks from where I live.
I live in the "Loop", the commercial heart of the city, surrounded by trains and big buildings and about 4 blocks from the lakefront.

Brussels is pretty (in places) and not too big (probably even a bit small), but veeery international! It's fun, especially in the months of May to August - plenty of concerts, events, festivals!

I'm from Heidelberg, Germany. Heidelberg has about 140 000 inhabitants. Since 8 years I live 40 kilometers away from Heidelberg, in a rural area called Palatinate.

Aww you all live in such beautiful places, I almost feel ashamed to post stuff about my teeny little town. You've all seen pics of JFK getting assasinated in Dealy Plaza - that's downtown Dallas, near a gentrified area called the West End, known for tourist shopping - all 3 blocks of it.
If you guys have seen the movie 'Robocop' it was filmed in Dallas, less savory areas.
I'll look around for pics, but my part of Texas is pretty much mixed prairie, meaning flat and nondescript.

I'm in SLC for the holiday weekend (while you're in Denver I think). The weather has been awful (rain, hail, and unseasonably cold and dreary), but is just now clearing up. The mountains are stunning and huge and a bit intimidating! You can see the whole valley and surrounding mountains from my sisters home, and the site of all of it is impressive - after more rain here this morning, the mountains are topped with fresh white snow. SLC seems very friendly, and the temple and whole LDS history interesting. Glad I got a glimpse of your fair city. Nice place, all-in-all.

I'm from a town of 13,000 residents, Indianola, IA. The biggest things that happen here are the National [Hot Air] Balloon Classic, hanging out at the Summerset Winery, and the Indianola [motor] Bike Night. We're about twenty minutes away from the largest city in Iowa, Des Moines - population 198,682. That's where I drive to work every day.
I attached some photos which I didn't take, found them on a web search. Our city is very rural as you can see. I couldn't find a pic of the town square, but if you have ever seen Sleeping With the Enemy, our town looks a lot like the one that Laura moves to after leaving Martin.

I'm not sure how many people know, but I live just outside of the city of Muncie, Indiana before you get to a little rural town called Selma, Indiana (I don't live in any actual city limits, I live in the middle of nowhere). Muncie is a college town, home to Ball State University (where I am a student) and it is where David Letterman went to college. It is also home to Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield, and his company Paws, Inc. which does everything Garfield related. A little trivia fact for everyone... it is the only town or city in the entire United States called "Muncie" -- no one shares our name with us. This is because "Muncie" is derived from the name of a Native American tribe that dwelled in this area known as the Munsee. It sounds like I'm making this up, doesn't it? Well, it's true. Haha. You can check it out if you want.
Anyway, I thought about posting photos of everything in my area, but then I remembered something. Our very own wonderful Celeste, who was aware of my location (as she is a fellow midwesterner) sent me a link to this video by these two guys from Muncie that did a rap about our city. It shows you everything in our area and gives you a great idea of what I see everyday -- both the rural aspects, and the actual city of Muncie. And while doing so, it gives you one hell of a laugh. It is seriously one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.

As I had shown earlier, I live in the Capital of Connecticut. I can see the tall buildings from my house as they are only 2 miles away. Yet my house is in the classic suburban residential neighborhood. Cute little ranches and Capes. I am fortunate that my property backs up to a large wooded parcel. Some mornings I find wild Turkeys in my backyard.
Late this morning as I was returning from the Supermarket I spotted a Deer in my Yard! I grabbed my digital camera and snapped a pic of her. I walked half way across my yard snapped a few pics, then crouched down and held my hand out. She walked over to me and stopped 20 feet away when she realized I had no food! LOL
I love it when I experience moments like this in the city. Hartford is such a diverse city. We have suburban neighborhoods, old victorian ones, big city office towers and blighted urban gang land. Today I had a deer in my yard, yet last week 16 people were shot in gang/drug related violence 4 miles from my house. Needless to say, I don't ever cross those over to that side of the tracks!

My parents travelled to New Zealand about 3 1/2 years ago. They spent an entire month in New Zealand, and then cruised from New Zealand all the way to Los Angeles, stopping at some of the different islands along the way. The entire trip took three months! My mother passed away about 6 months after returning from the trip, but my father still talks about New Zealand and how beautiful it was there, and how friendly everyone was. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Thanks again for posting those pictures. :D

Except that the houses are all made of wood. The gulch/chasm between us and them is an earthquake fault line. (But it hasn't done anything for over 150 years, touch wood).

The beautiful town of Cadaqués at the north of Catalonia. Spanish painter Salvador Dali lived there for over 50 years. He did most of his works there. One of the most beautiful places I have visited in Spain. It's 3 hours drive from Barcelona.

Dali's house in Port Lligat Bay, Cadaqués. It's a very curious house. It was originally a fisherman's shak, but Dali turned it into a house. It's not so big inside. It has the form of a labyrinth, more or less. The living room is decorated with portraits of famous men who wore their mustaches as Dali did. The house also has a pool in the form of a penis. La piscina peniforme, he called it. (I don't have a picture of it, sorry).

Thanks for the link Shuggy. When I went there I couldn't tell pool had the form of a penis. But the guide told us it did, but that it was a surreal penis, a la Dali. But my friend thought the same you do, that it was a penis with a needle stuck in it. The whole house is very Daliesque but there's a lot of Gala in it too. I loved Cadaqués. No massive constructions are allowed there, no tall buildings either. The neighbors make sure Dali's wishes to keep the town in it's original shape are respected, because he made Cadaqués what it is right now. Cadaqués was a small fisherman's villa in the beginning of the 20th century (Dali's father was born there), and Dali put it on the map. Lots of famous people went there to visit him: artist, poets, writers, actors and so on. Rumor has it that Dali and spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca lived a hot affair in Cadaqués.

Glad you like the shots of Big D. Guess what? I grew up in Pittsburgh! ;D It's a very scenic city. Lots of georgeous views and vistas. One of the most scenic cities I've ever been in, and I've been in a lot of cities, in the US, not abroad. Of course, it's my opinion.
The shots I found of Dallas came from the chamber of commerce website. There are a lot of beautiful areas around town if you know where to look, unfortunately, most times you are in a car just driving through.... :P Some of my favorite areas are Lakeside Park along Turtle Creek, White Rock Lake, Lee Park (after Robt E Lee), Tennison Memorial/Samuell Grand Park, and pretty much anywhere in the Park Cities or Preston Hollow.

And for the heck of it, the city I lived in before L.A... Buenos Aires... it seems like I never move out of megacities... I'm just drawn to them... the one thing I hated though about Buenos Aires was the police... they were very abusive and they recently raided this gay bar shutting it down. Los Angeles is quite different, though there is still some resentment amongst police... other then that, it is actually quite a culturally rich diverse city... too bad the police don't really respect diversity.

Some parts of it are rather nice, actually, and the surroundings are mountainous by Dutch standards. We also claim to be the oldest city in the country, settled by the Romans; we had our 2,000th birthday last year (admittedly, the claim is somewhat contentious, as 50 years ago we celebrated the 1850th birthday of the city... ??? )
It is a pity that the ancient city centre was all but destroyed towards the end of WWII, when an American warplane accidently bombed it because they thought they were already flying over Germany... :'( They weren't that far wrong, really: Germany is a pleasant 25 minute bicycle ride to the east.

Exactly, David--it's the (now ruined) Smallpox Hospital designed by James Renwick in 1854 (he also designed New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral and Grace Church) on Roosevelt Island (once called Wefare Island, and before then Blackwell's Island) in the middle of the East River--and it's straight across out all my windows!
Tobey Maguire and William Dafoe battled in Spiderman (2002) in the ruin--in a stageset, I guess, but I watched a lot of (night) filming in the real thing when they were making the movie there.
I've been told that the clothes designer (and native New Yorker) Arnold Scassi contibuted the money that illumates the structure at night--can be spooky, no?

I still have "connections" with Narrabeen and visit regularly, Shasta. It was a wonderful place to grow up. Just below where the photo was taken, on the near side of Narrabeen Lake, in the photo I posted, you can actually see my street. Just a glimpse of it, between the trees, near the edge of the lake. That street runs along the southern edge of the lake in an east-to-west direction, ending in the Pacific Ocean at the eastern end. Our house was at the eastern end of the street, near the ocean. I vividly remember falling asleep each night to the sound of the waves breaking on nearby South Narrabeen beach. My bedroom was in a closed-in verandah. There was lots to do for a child growing up at Narrabeen. I spent a lot of my time at the beach, where my three older brothers were all lifesavers, undertaking voluntary patrolling duties in the summer. And when I wasn't at the beach, you would have probably found me playing somewhere near the lake. One could (still can) hire canoes and small boats and go rowing on the lake. Several streams empty into the lake, and I also did a lot of hiking in the foothills around the lake, following the course of those streams. All of these activities were usually accompanied by my beautiful German Shepherd dog, Toots. We called her Toots because she had such huge feet when she was a baby, and you call baby's feet "tootsies" - no connection with the movie "Toots," which came decades later. Might have been an omen, though! Quizzically, the name of our cat was Priscilla! Also, decades before the movie "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." I kid you not! ;) :D

Sydney Harbour is huge, Kelda, and I live near a quiet little bay, hidden from the major tourist traps. The harbour is literally at the end of my street, only a walk away, and I can get to the Opera House in under 5 minutes across town, if the lights are green. :)

USS Kitty Hawk recently visited Sydney. Some of the sailors (medics) visited the hospital where I work. They were very popular with the patients and staff . . . and they were cute too!

Most of you already know I live in Indianapolis, Indiana; Speedway to be exact, which is a town situated on the west side of Indianapolis near the airport. It is named after the 2 1/2 mile oval track where several auto races are held each year.

A few years ago we had the John F. Kennedy (aircraft carrier) anchor in Casco Bay. It was huge! I was actually taking off in a plane and we flew over it. I was amazed at the size.
I tried to copy this picture to my photobucket but it didn't work. Oh well, here it is in the harbor. All the sailboats give you some idea of the size.

Actually, I just read a little bit more at that website. I didn't realize the Kennedy had just been decommissioned! That's sad news. The last picture is of it being towed to Norfolk, Virginia.

When USS Kitty Hawk visited Sydney a couple of months ago, it too was on its way back to the USA to be decommissioned.

I live in Christchurch which is the largest city in the South Island of NZ.

A bit smoggy cause I assume this was taken in winter, in the distance you can see the mountain range called the Southern Alps. Thats where Peter Jackson filmed parts of the Lord of the Rings trilogy
