An archive of the threads saved from imbd was built up. I had quite a time looking for the link, so I just thought I'd post here for easy access.
http://www.geocities.com/bbmarchive/
*mods, if there is already a thread of this, feel free to delete this one.
Edited to include 'IMDB' in the topic title for easier searching.--Lynne
*edit to add: Please keep this link confidential within the BetterMost forums and do not mention it on IMDb. We think IMDb would not be too happy if they found out that we took their pages and wholly copied them, ads and all, to our own private archive for safe keeping. It was, of course, our only option, but we don't want to attract attention to ourselves from the wrong people--admins, trolls, or whomever might be against what we did.
-
This is a fine place for the link to those saved threads for now; I am making it sticky for easier access. I truly appreciate all the hard work of so many in salvaging them. Thanks to all who were involved in this labour of love.

Thank you starboardlight!!
a labour of love it is indeed. I've added the link to my favourites. I feel I should now give you a :-*

This is sooooo awesome. Thanks go to many, and especially littledarlin (Andrew) and Jenny (newyearsday)!
-
Thank you so much to all involved in this project! Brings back old memories...

A hundred gratitudes for this healing work -- so beautiful to have all these insightful pieces together in one place: On My Favorites list. :-* :-* :-* Iris

How long are the archives going to be under construction? Just curious. Will it continuously be under construction as new threads over on Imdb are deemed interesting enough to save?
It's such a cool idea. It makes me all warm and happy to see that good old "bookends" thread saved... under my old alias... but still it makes me proud.
:)

Amanda,
I don't know the answer about any new archiving...maybe Andrew or Jenny know of a plan? I really haven't been to IMDB since CT came here. Not enough time & I kinda lost interest with so much happening in the comfy campfire of BetterMost.
Lynne

Thanks Lynne,
Well, I'm curious because whenever I go to the Archive website it says "under construction".
I love the notice about trespassers when you first enter the site. Very excellent.
-
I understand the mods have been discussing it amongst themselves.
-
When threads started disappearing, I also began to same some of my favorites to protect them from obliteration. I have several archived that do not seem to be in the BBM archive site. If someone is interested, I could upload them.

This should really be 'stickied' at the top of this forum.....

Hello bjblakeslee,
I've just now seen this post, and I would like to say that Yes, I am VERY interested in your old archived threads. How can we do this? I am not part of the Archiving Team but I would like to have copies of what you have saved, how much is there bjblakeslee?
thanks for making this offer, I hope we can work this out... Please PM me, thanks,
Jane

I have reposted some of the old threads on IMDB...
(The indexed link of threads originally referenced is now gone.)
This is a partial listing of some of them:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388795/board/thread/42865219?d=61646993&p=3#61646993 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388795/board/thread/42865219?d=61646993&p=3#61646993)
Hint: my IMDB reposts are usually listed under the name "True_Oracle_of_Phoenix" and unless the title is too long ot allow it, will include " -- by (OP's name)" in the title

If you Pm newyearsday she will know who to conatctre putting stuff online at the site

From this ENTIRE thread, I have gotten ONE thread froM IMDb. There is nothing under the first post except the photo and"tresspassers will be shoT; survivors will be shot again." Th thread I have accss to is about the significasncer of November in BBM. It's fine...but only contains about three posts.
I have even forgotten the name of the great scholar who used to post on IBDb...anyone recall i? His first post dealt with the twists' kitchen, the white light, and a lot of classical references...wasn't his name "Casey" something?

Hey Julie,
his name was and is Casey Cornelius, and he still posts over there. Although I think he altered his name slightly, you can still recognize it. "something-Casey Cornelius" or "Casey Cornelius-something".

PS: I tried a couple of the links, and they still worked for me:

After seeing The 300 I am finding new interest in Casey's classic thread!
-
This thread has been hanging around Movie Resources for some time, but I think its home is more appropriate here now. I love the idea of having all of those great IMDB discussions preserved.
Welcome to the team, Bruce! Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

I don't know who is hosting the archive site, but all I can say is thank you! I have a friend who is right now going through the coming out process, and he's gonna re-watch BBM and I have forwarded him this website with all of our early discussions on the film for reference. This is such a valuable resource. It's also refreshing to go back and look at our original discussions. Makes me want to watch the movie again! :)
-
I think these threads are a valuable reference as well, and I hope your friend will find these threads to be as valuable of a reference tool as I have.
Traffic is slower through here these days (as would be expected for a movie that is now 3 years old), so this is more of an archive than an active forum. I have also had a few events in my life that I have needed to deal with, and I haven't been as active at Bettermost or IMDb as I once was, but I do check in occasionally to keep track of things.
-
Hi Bruce! :-*
And I love that archive - must go and have a look at it soon!
-
Bruce! Thank you for hosting those archives. They are GOLD! And helpful in so many ways to many future generations of "Brokies". More than we think or know....
-
Yes, I agree that preserving all those wonderful old threads is really important. It's been so much work collecting the threads and saving them over the months and years. The efforts are most certainly well worth it.
:)

Do folks think there would really be any harm in posting the link to the archive site on the IMDB message board?

Do folks think there would really be any harm in posting the link to the archive site on the IMDB message board?
I think there might be some risk in doing that. Who knows what the powers-that-be at imdb would think of that archive, and it seems like it could possibly stir up some trolls again.
Has something happened on the imdb board to raise this as an interest? I haven't visited the imdb message board for ages and ages.
-
I think there is an interest, but concerns about possibly inviting trolls into this space is a legitimate concern.
Troll posts here are only a minor annoyance, but a few members of the IMDb "thought police" have grumbled that the archive is a "violation of terms" and have threatened to register complaints to IMDb admins.

I think the issue of imdb admins getting upset is one of the best reasons to continue to keep the archive quiet. It would be such a huge shame to lose all of that amazing content. So, I don't know if publicizing it is worth the risk. That's just my opinion on this of course.
-
I have no idea of the possible (or not) legal complications, but my gut feeling says the same as Amanda's.
And when there are still troll problems over at IMDB, that's another reason to keep it quiet. We don't need more trolls here :P.
Just my 2 cents.

I referred this link to my new roomate today. He said he saw the movie 4 times in the theatres. (I didn't tell him how many times I've seen it. Yet. :D )
But I also took a wander through some of the discussion topics and threads. Oh the memories. And it's still so nice to see so many names from 3 and a half years ago that are still here with us today. :)
I continue to say thank you to the folks who saved these threads, and for the folks who are keeping this geocities site live. Please don't ever let us loose this....
-
Amen Eric!
-
Yep. It sure is nice sometime to take a walk down memory lane and revisit old threads here and archived threads from imdb.
It never ceases to amaze me now longstanding the Brokie community is at this point.
Truly, it's been 4 f-in' years since the 2005 release. Amazing.
-
I found this site a while ago and completely forgot to post it here.
http://nipith.com/bbm_threads/ (http://nipith.com/bbm_threads/)
I sure there is some redundancy, but I always love combing through old IMDB threads. Takes me back to the good old days when BBm was in the theaters. I enjoy being reminded of ideas and interpretations I may have forgotten about.
-
That's our very own starboardlight's page! :) cool!!
-
That really is cool about starboardlight's page!
Retropian, if you search this member's posts, you'll find lots of interesting observations and ideas about BBM. He was very active here in them early days of the website... and he still drops by from time to time, but not as regularly as before.
:)

Yeah, I remember. There's not to much discussion about BBM themes and motif's anymore. Perhaps it's been wrung out, but I enjoy revisiting old threads and getting refreshed on ideas that I'd forgotten, or even better, hadn't encountered before.

I guess the geo-cities hosting page is gone... :(
