Heard this on a radio station today. People were asked to ring in to tell about the gifts they have given or received, from boyfriend, husband/wife, friend, parents, etc....
Thought it would be interesting to find out about any funny gifts you have received, or useless gifts, and also gifts that have been very useful, or just gifts that have been surprising.
The only one I can think of personally, at the moment, is three Christmas's ago, my hubby gave me a parrot.....and I love him dearly......the following Fathers Day, I gave hubby a puppy.
Maybe because we own a pet shop, we really did not think these gifts were extra-ordinary.

The man who stole my heart, had to be careful about gifts. One Xmas he gave me an amazing set of kitchen utensils, masher, knives, fish slice etc, the whole works. I love to cook, it is one of my ways to calm down and these were so beautifully crafted.I could easily have bought them myself, so nothing to arouse any suspicion there, and I still use all of them to this day.I cook daily so I remember him daily.
I know it sounds boring, but to anyone that cooks, a really good set of knives is just manna from heaven.I sharpen them myself with oil on a stone and they will last forever, just like my love.
He was also the first person to tell me about BBM the s.s. He had found it on the internet, after his brother who is gay had told him a about it.
The best gift of all though, was he gradually made me strip away all my masks, make up, designer this that and the other, and showed me that the real me was someone to be proud of, and someone he loved and still does.

My second husband once gave me a fake rose in a glass case. It played "I love you truly".
A couple of months later, he packed up his wigs and dresses and left me for a bi friend. (After he got his permanent green card.) >:(
-
ouch.. I hope you stomped all over that rose...
-
Lets just say I know longer have that rose. When he left he said he deserved better than me. I told him I hope he got what he deserved.
Deserved better. Not a lot of wives would be fully supportive of cross dressing, to the point it was a detriment to the relationship. (I couldn't shop for myself, it was always for him. I had to call first when I was out with the kids (mine, not ours) to make sure he was dressed right when we came home.)
I was pretty glad when he left.

Probably the most unusual gift I was ever given (I'll probably tell y'all the story of it one of these days) was two 5 pence pieces. I've got them somewhere (can't see where at the moment as my office in the spare room's a bit off a mess at the moment - I'm in mid "spring clean" mode ) in a frame, mounted on a red velvet background. It's quite a long story, so it'll have to wait for another day, but it's a nice "Aw...nice!" kind of story.

Most romantic gift.........an ex of mine and I were both Brokies, and he had 6 pieces of ceramics made. Two large dinner plates, two coffee mugs, and two candy dishes.
They were covered in quotes from the movie, and had a cowboy hat in the center. He also had our pet names for each other put on the pieces. He's gone, but I still have my set.
Not a gift, but a romantic moment I had with another ex was a very nice and sweet Valentine's night dinner, and a long walk through The Village, with him holding my hand.

My hubby once made a scavanger hunt for me for my birthday. My birthday is in January, and we both still lived with our parents back then, so it took place in his room, but was pretty difficult. He had collected more than 20 of those capsules where you kept films, before digital photography.
He gave me the first, nicely wrapped, and I thought my present would be in there. Wrong. In each capsule was a hint where to find the next one. For example a few crumbs of fish food, and the next was hidden behind the aquarium, stuff like that. In the last one was a tiny key, which belonged to his briefcase, and in there was my present, a new jeans jacket. :D
I still have the jacket. I've long grown out of it, but I keep it.
The most ugly gift I ever got was a candleholder for our wedding. Candleholders can be nice, don't get me wrong. But that was a hideous thing. It was made like a fake Greek pillar, and parts of it were gold-plated. Horrible, I tell you.

Ex or no, I would have kept the set, too. ;D

I remember a day came when I debated boxing them up, and then I thought: "I can't get rid of them! They're Brokie stuff!"

What a fun and creative idea! :D

How do people feel about Christmas presents? They seem to be fading away, in favor of gift cards. The guy I date told me, frankly, he would prefer getting money to any present. Although he gives me presents, books, music and, recently, bird feeders.

My brother used to give just money. This year, he actually did shopping, and was excited for it.
When my mother asked him about it, his reply was:
"For the past 12 years I've worked security at Toys R Us. My holidays were full of unwanted overtime, dealing with shoplifters, angry customers, and I just didn't want to do anything else for the holidays! This year, I'm working a new job, have better hours, and don't have to deal with the holiday craziness, so for the first time in a long time, I want to go out and shop!"
