A couple weeks ago, I saw a very nice greyhound up for adoption at our local Petco. She was so sweet and calm. I wanted her!!!!!! It's a big no-no for me to go to Petco on Saturday. There was a Persian tuxedo kitten that I wanted too.
It was brutal to leave empty-handed. :-\ :P

Besides, I don't know how my animals would react to a new friend. Cody would probably adjust quickly. He's very happy go lucky, but I'm not sure about my cat. He can be tempermental at times. He's been hissing at Cody quite a bit and I can't figure out why. Sometimes he'll walk right up to Cody, hiss at him, and Cody will squint his eyes in shame and look away. I think it hurts his feelings. Then, later on, the two of them will be playing with each other. I think maybe they might have this secret language that I don't understand. :-\

I have the CD also. I always loved this one in particular, because it attempts to explain the Santa Claus myth from the point of view of a child. It all made sense! That's why it's this way or that.

They just got married under the Christmas trees!! I love that wedding scene. And all the animals joined in.
I remember how moving that scene was. There was no priest, no license. Just two people who loved each other, under the stars, with the animals as witnesses, on the "holiest night of the year", sanctifying their connection.

Rudolph's nose looks red NOW, but have you ever noticed at the end of the movie when he's leading Santa's sleigh, his nose is PINK? It's pink in that scene. Watch and you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't know if that was a filming mistake, but I kind of like it. It looks better in pink, at least in the dark.
Maybe you could become a dentist! And fix Bumbles' teeth!

LS Ayre's is gone now. They went out of business, but whomever now owns that building still puts the little golden cherub up on the outside clock at Christmas time. The cherub would magically appear on the clock the day after Christmas. I'm glad they still keep that custom around here. Ayre's was a wonderful department store. I have lots of memories of that store.
Look at Ralphie's face when he opens up his gun present! Priceless! That's why I wish I had kids. CHristmas is so magical for them! And it's just as fun for the grownups too because they get to make the magic. The man behind the curtain, so to speak.

When my parents came down to Evansville to visit me, a bird flew into the bathroom window while my Mom was in there changing. It was at night. She let out a blood curdling scream. She had no idea what flew in there. So I had to go in there and shew the bird back out.
I still can't remember ever opening that bathroom window. I had air conditioning, but the house was haunted. Very haunted. Perhaps you read about it in the ghost thread.

Yes. We do in school suspensions (ISS). It's a vacation to get suspended out of school! LOL.
In ISS, they have to do their work. But it counts for their grade. They are separated from the general population. They are walked to the bathroom by the proctor at a time when the rest of the students are in class. They bring their lunch into the ISS room.
They hate it. LOL.
If they are suspended out of school, they get zeroes on any work that is due the days they are out.
Well--no one goes in the bathroom with them. They just wait out in the hall.
I got suspended a couple of times in high school. My mom was furious. One time she made me spend the day painting the living room. LOL

Anyway the toilet exploded and they had this great big inquisition and we all had to get questioned by the principal. I was sweating like a stuck pig, and I didn't even do it! They made us all feel really guilty.

I went to mylifetime.com and looked at the pictures and read about the family. It looks like the mom and dad have remained together---I'm glad. Something as tragic as the death of a child often causes people to divorce. They have some grandchildren in the pictures, too. I think the man who wrote the book died---wasn't the movie dedicated to Bobby and to him?

My parents put me through hell when I first told them I was gay. And ironically it was in 1982, about the same time Bobby did it. I remember it was 1982, because I told them about a month before my grandma passed. She died in November of 1982.

David, you and I are close to the same age. As difficult as it was coming out then, I was lucky that my parents were more accepting, despite being Catholic.

Yeah I remember going through that too and it also was around the same time. My father even gave me the talk about that animals didn't do things like that. I will never forget that. I was in my first relationship with Steve. We had an apartment and my parents came by to talk. Basically I was disowned by my father, but somehow my mother got him through it, but she was devastated too. Years later she told me she had always known I was gay just like what was said in the movie. The first indication I got that they knew something was going on was when my father asked me why I didn't ever mention girls when I talked about my friends. I was 17 at the time, but I was already going to the bar. I had a fake ID. I said, oh yeah there's lots of girls, there Billie Jo, etc., etc. Billie Jo was a drag queen and the other girls I mentioned were lesbians ;) But now I am very close to my parents.

he moved in with us in his senior year of high school....and his mom never said a word about it. I would have thrown a fit if D had moved out while he was underage.

My sister still can't accept the fact she has a gay brother. She even tried to turn her son and daughter against me. It almost worked too. For years, Christy wouldn't come by to see me, and Susan had her half way convinced to not let her kids around me. Susan moved to Denver a couple of years ago and Christy is starting to come to her senses. It's better if my sister lives 1000 miles away. I hate to say it, but it's true.

Nicki is a Yorkshire terrier. They were bred to be ratcatchers, but she's useless!!! She'll chase a ball or a toy, but not a mouse. My first Yorkie was a wonderful mouser. She'd keep at it until she caught it; she'd grab it, shake it, and lay it down. Very efficient. :P 8)

There's a new movie out called "A Haunting in Connecticut" (or something like that). Sounds like your kind of movie, David. ;)
Yes!! I'd love to go see it! It's based on actual events too! They once did a show about it on Discovery Channel's "A Haunting". I think it happened inside an old funeral home that was re-converted back into a house and this family bought it and moved in. One of the kids was real sick (if I remember correctly).
When I was a kid, I went to school with a girl whose dad was the town's undertaker. Although there were separate entrances, their living area was in the same building as the funeral home. EEEK.
There were 2 funeral homes in town. In the other one, someone spent the nite with the body. I'd remember hearing my grandma talk about so-and-so is going to spend the nite at the funeral home. I was always like---what the heck!!!?? I didn't ever want that job.
Not long before my time, tho, people kept their loved ones' bodies in the house for viewing until burial.

There were 2 funeral homes in town. In the other one, someone spent the nite with the body. I'd remember hearing my grandma talk about so-and-so is going to spend the nite at the funeral home. I was always like---what the heck!!!?? I didn't ever want that job.
Not long before my time, tho, people kept their loved ones' bodies in the house for viewing until burial.

When I was going to college, my ex wife and I lived in a mortuary. There were two apartments above the funeral home. One door accessed a dark stairway which went up to the apartments. The door where first-call (the guys that picked up the bodies) staff wheeled in the bodies, caskets, etc. was right next to our door. While the funeral home and ambulance service had split years prior, the owner still ran both businesses. I was on paramedic duty every other weekend and she would answer the door bell to great people wishing to view a loved one, etc, when the funeral director or staff wasn't there. The place was old, the back smelled of formaldyhyde (sp), but we were never creeped out. I suppose it was because we knew everyone downstairs was, for the most part, dead. Heck, my ex was afraid of the dark, but not the mortuary.

I think Megan was glad to go home to see her little boy. AND, as I've said a million times (almost), she's going on the tour.

It's not really all that scary though Jess. They scream and run a lot, but they really never capture any ghosts on tape. Every once in a while they do, but mostly they just scream and run away. But it is interesting to see all of the historic buildings. And it's a fun show to watch.
They've been to America many times. The first half of this series was in the US. I've heard rumors they will be investigating the Alamo next season. Other than the US, they mostly stay in Great Britain for their investigations.

No. Seriously Jess it isn't that scary. The Cullen vampires are very friendly to humans. It has a couple of mildly scary parts. Let's put it this way: it's not nearly as scary as Interview With the Vampire, and that movie wasn't all that scary either. This is basically a love story where one of the people just happens to be a vampire!

I crate trained Cody and for the most part it is very effective. Just as long as you start it when they are a pup. It seems to have worked with these dogs too though, and they were adults. It is a VERY effective way to house train a puppy. Cody caught on very quickly. Dogs will not soil their bed and if you keep the crate small enough they will hold it in. But you must not allow them to hold it in for too long.
Cody was let out regularly while he was crate trained. The beauty of the crate was he never learned to associate the house with a place to potty. He would go straight from the crate to the outside and he pottied out there. When Cody got bigger, I bought a bigger crate.
He still has his crate and he loves it. He only goes in there if he wants too. The crate training ended several years ago. But dogs are den animals and they love a private and secure place they can retreat to if necessary. I have found Cody in his crate many times if I happen to be gone during a thunderstorm. He feels safe in there. But! If I'm home and there is a thunderstorm he's either on my lap or pressed snuggly against me on the couch! He HATES HATES HATES thunderstorms.

Yeah, it does look very freaky. That is the infrared lighting. I think that is what it is called. They are walking around in pitch blackness, and they use the infrared so they can still film. They can't see that light. It is invisible. They are walking around in total darkness. Eventually their eyes will adjust and they can see a little, but they have no visible light in there whatsoever.
That's the part that would REALLY freak me out. The total darkness in a haunted place.

Butler is right here in Indianapolis. It's right up the road from from where they live. It's a really nice college. It's private and very exclusive. They will get a very good education there. :)

I just switched over to Animal Planet and caught the end of it! He just groomed a homeless person's dog for free! He was a cute dog too. He looked like he was part bull mastiff. She was so grateful she almost burst into tears. Then he hugged her.

I keep Cody on a very strict diet. He is fed twice a day. If he gets table scraps (he doesn't beg. He knows to wait) I consider the caloric intake and feed him less kibble. The vet told me he is the perfect weight for a golden retriever. It is not difficult to keep his weight under control.
I can understand the tempations to feed a pet too much. But they enjoy the hugs and cuddles just as much as the excess food, if not more.

Milly is a good weight but Crybaby is FAT FAT FAT....I feed him a diet food and measure it with a measuring cup, a third twice a day...but he eats EVERYTHING...he digs in the garbage, he eats paper, toilet paper (clean), napkins, clothes...I dont' know what to do with him...

And speaking of toilet paper.......Code the cat gets it and shreds it so I have to keep it hidden. But he did do his job yesterday. I came in and he had caught a mouse, a real one. That mouse picked the wrong house to come in. But Thank God he didn't eat it or anything. It was dead though and he put it right in the middle of his food dish like he does many of his other toys. It didn't even look hurt. He probably threw it up in the air and that was probably the end of it when it came crashing down. I guess maybe he was trying to feed it to make it come back :laugh:

That was a weird challenge to make dogs look sllimmer. It seemed unfair since the dogs had different type bodies and different hair. And I don't like one of the judges---I think his name is Xavier.

Yeah, I get very emotional about my cat too. I miss my animals. That's why I always bring them to Dad's with me. Cory is there to take care of them, but I don't want to be separated from them. I don't think I'd be able to go to sleep at night without Cody on one side of me and Oreo up next to me purring in my ear. :)
