this pandering to the Tea Party base is going to reach its logical conclusion with the threat to vote against a continuing resolution on the US budget.  This isn't 1995, and the effect of not continuing the Federal budget will stop Social Security direct deposits due on March 10.  The majority of the Tea Party base is going to find out just what 'standing on principle' means when their deposits don't happen.  How long do you think it will be before the Republicans vote through that resolution?  Yup, long enough for Grandpa to wake up and smell the roses and call his Republican congresscritter.  THAT is how shortsighted their strategy is.
