Please share your Halloween memories!
Halloween is just around the corner, with all traditional trimmings.
Whatever way you celebrate it this year, I'm sure many of you have plenty of memories from bygone Halloweens.
Why not share them with us all?
This is an invitation to share your best/worst/cutest/funniest/scariest/tastiest/most embarrassing/darkest memories of all the Halloweens you've experienced.
We would love to hear them!
Please tell us!!

I wish I had a Halloween story or memory to start off with, but tell you what, truth is I've never celebrated Halloween in my life!
It's not a traditional holiday in Sweden, it was imported here from the US about 10 years ago. Now there are pumpkins and skelotons and ghosts in every shop window, and it's celebrated among kids. But nobody older than 10 is familiar with Halloween, and thus I have no memories to share.
But all of you who grew up with Halloween traditions, please share your memories!

I missed out on quite a few Halloweens because it was our tradition that the husband takes the children trick-or-treating while the wife stays home to hand out candy. The first two years at our house, there were a handful of kids who braved the long trek from the road to our house along a winding driveway LOL. I decorated and put up lights and tried to make it as welcoming as possible. But the trick or treaters dwindled down to none as a more conjested street in our neighborhood became known as THE street where you could get the most candy. Still, I focused on getting the children into their costumes and let my husband take them out, because he enjoyed standing on the street corner with his buddies, passing a flask around and shooting the bull.
My son, particularly, loved to dress up for Halloween and designed elaborate costumes. We had to begin working on them as early as July. One year he dressed as Legolas so we had to obtain a tunic, vest, cape, leaf pin, gauntlets, leggings, blond wig, boots, two swords, a bow, arrows, a quiver and a sword belt. Whew!

That sounds like a great costume! :D

I trick-or-treated in Alabama in the 60's/70's. I especially loved getting homemade goodies from neighbors... Mrs. Jones would make pop-corn balls (pop corn rolled in heated corn syrup that hardened when it cooled)... Miss Merchant gave out home made candied apples and my favorite was pecan praelines that Mrs. Sorrell made and wrapped in wax paper and tied with little ribbons. It was before anyone worried about accepting home made/home packaged goodies. It was such an innocent time and I cherish the memory to this day.

Thanks! And guess what? I obtained the blond wig at a costume store and the bow at the Renaissance Festival. Everything else was made by yours truly!!

Heya!
I love Halloween, and I love the idea of things like ghost stories. But, I think I have quite an overactive imagination... so things like haunted houses to visit at Halloween, etc. always really scared me as a kid (often way out of proportion). But, I loved costumes and trick-or-treating. I went trick-or-treating with friends all the way until I was a senior in high school. It was always fun. And, my Mom was really good at helping me make costumes. Not too long ago she emailed me some scans of old photos of a somewhat random selection of my old Halloween costumes. Thought I'd go ahead and share them.

Adorable!
You mom looks like a teenager in the photo. I thought it was an older friend/neighbourhood kid.
Thanks for sharing these treasures. 8)

I am amazed at your mom's youthfulness, too. She looks way too young to have a child as old as you are in that photo!

I don't have any Halloween memories from my childhood, or even from some years back. Halloween is fairly new for us here in Germany.
But I thought I'd add some newly created memories, from last night. :)
Kerstin and kids were coming over. Here are our two vampires
(Oliver and Kerstin's daughter), ready to go trick or treating.

This one is already from last week, I admit. Still, it's great Halloween
food: Brainz Stew. I should have taken dark bread though, would be better for pics.

It's tue. The Dragon Droppings were bought from the bakery (it's Quarkbällchen, similar to donut-holes, but the dough is made with curd). The Witches's Fingers were made by Kerstin, the stew by hubby. Only the Eyeball-Bowle was from me. ;D

I should be able to reproduce it.
For the adult version, one can add vodka. :)

Add enough vodka, and your cooking skills - or lack thereof - will somehow lose its importance.... ::) ;D :-*

This isn't a memory, but Halloween themed.
OMG! If these people were my neighbors, I'd have to shoot them!

Before you shoot them, Chuck, make sure they've turned that machine from hell off!!!
Otherwise it may play on and on and on for EVER!!!!! :o :o
