Title: For BBC Sherlock fans
Post by: delalluvia on September 20, 2013, 08:58:40 pm
Benedict Cumberbatch is now filming The Imitation Game, the story of Alan Turing

http://www.thehollywoodnews.com/2013/09/17/superb-cast-join-cumberbatch-imitation-game/

Here we go again.  On another board I'm currently arguing with another person who has told me that in a movie about a man who was homosexual whose tragedy was because of the persecution he was subjected to because of his homosexuality, it is absolutely not necessary or desirable to actually SEE any homosexual activity from the main character - whether a kiss, a hand holding or sex scene.

I'm like really?  I mean really?

Hello,

I've been away too long.  Been really caught up in various fandom boards on the summer movies.  ;D

But fall is now here.

I guess she won't be watching anything 'visual' .

But her attitude is just wonky.  She thinks she's being perfectly logical.

I think she's being perfectly insane.

I guess Benedict was smart not to attend the Emmys last night. He and most all the other Brits didn't win anything. The strong showing of American dramas was blamed.

He was busy shooting in London, otherwise he might have been. But it didn't make sense for him to fly all the way out to LA for one night.  He was only in Toronto for 3 days before he had to fly back to the UK to start the filming on Turing.

But just as well.  American TV is too strong in quality and popularity right now for the odd Brit to win no matter how good.

James Rhodes is a close friend of Benedict Cumberbatch and is a famous musician in his own right.

He tweeted this

*alas, this is the international copy.  The US copy does not have him on the cover.

Yep he did.  ;D  They showed some clips from some of his movies and TV shows.  Sherlock included.  Even one of the later presenters commented that his wife had a crush on Benedict.

But BBC America cut his speech.  He thanked more people than just his parents.

Not good quality but here it is...

I am informed that my daughter has downloaded a copy of the new series opener, but I intend to stay the course and wait until the US season opener in a couple of weeks. Do you think I can do it?

One more day to go! The show starts at a weird time, I'm told. Two minutes before the hour.

Last night I attended a Sherlock Holmes birthday party and a movie was shown starring this man. Anybody know who he is?

I see you posted the quiz here, as well as on your blog.  So, my guess is still The Thin Man himself, William Powell.

Good guess, Paul! But . . . NO! Here is a photo of William Powell in a similar pose. (Although he is in the movie I saw last night!)

More guesses, please!!

Oh, it's John Barrymore!

Correct, friend Paul! It's amazing how little known John Barrymore is these days! Back in his heyday, he was called "The Great Profile". I'm not sure I would like having that nickname. He starred in the first full-length movie of Sherlock Holmes back in 1922.

The Great Profile!  I found this of a very young John B.  So, how was the film, besides silent?

Wonderful photo, Paul! I'm amazed at the way his shirt and jacket envelope him and set off his magnificent head!

I thought the film was entrancing, but a lot of it had to do with the rich blacks and grays and the way the actors made up for the lack of dialogue with their piercing gazes and postures. I'm told this film is viewable on Turner Classic Movies. It's worth a look! Also, Hedda Gabler is in it, as well as William Powell.

I was wondering why, in the Imitation Game, there are so many shots of the back of BC's head? Can anybody throw light on this question?

Yes, but we're in denial.

Don't worry about snarking me, my kids do it all the time. Just call me Mrs. Malapope...er, Malaprop!

Very nice, and I like the Game of Thrones lick at the end.  Their take on the Game of Thrones theme is nice, too.

Saw this on Facebook today:

Haha, I saw that in The New Yorker! Minor beef, the cartoon doesn't look a thing like BC...they could have easily given him his kidney bean shaped eyes.
