Title: Chowhound, You Will be Greatly Missed!
Post by: Luvlylittlewing on April 19, 2014, 11:15:38 pm
Many here will remember Chowhound, a fellow Brokie who loved Brokeback Mountain and never seemed to tire of talking about our movie.  It is with great sadness that I relate news of his passing.  A mutual friend hadn't heard from him in awhile, and after Googling him, found this:

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/obituary.aspx?n=eric-s-rump&pid=170680113

RUMP, Eric S. - Professor Rump died in his 77th year, mourned by his sister Eileen, his nephews Matthew and Stephen, his great-niece Jessica and his great-nephews Oliver and Joseph, lamented by his colleagues at Glendon College, York University, where he spent the whole of his professional career, and deeply missed by his many friends in Ontario, England, British Columbia and Australia. He will be remembered for his wit, his kindness and his good humour. The funeral service will be held at St. James-the-Less, Parliament St., on Tuesday, May 6th at 4 p.m. Donations to Baycrest Foundation or the Canadian Opera Company will be appreciated.

Published in the Toronto Star from Apr. 17 to Apr. 19, 2014

Just thought you guys would want to know.   :'(  :'(  :'(

Thanks for letting us know.

I don't recall having any conversations with Chowhound, but I do remember reading CH's posts here on BetterMost.

Chowhound's first post here.

Hi! I'm chowhound. I've been a regular poster on the Brokeback board at IMDb for the last eighteen months but as so many of my dear friends there are also registering here, I've decided to join them. Anyl guidance in navigating this board most welcome.

Oh, what sad news.  :(

I recall the screen name, but that's about it.

He was a college professor? I wonder what his subject was.  ??? Just goes to illustrate yet again that Brokeback affected people from all walks of life.

My sympathy to his family.

He was less active in the last few years but he never stopped asking questions about Brokeback. I know most here had limited contact with him,  but I just thought you all would like to know about his passing.

Bruce, how nice to see you here. Yes, Eric was a good man. We were starting to get better acquainted until he took ill. I'll really miss him. He was so gentle and kind.'

I don't believe I ever communicated with him directly, but sad none the less to see another remarkable person pass from this world. May he rest in peace and happiness.

Here was his last post from September of last year:

"When commenting on the age and build of the hustler, it may be worth remembering that this is, in fact, the film's photographer, Rodrigo Prieto. Apparently, he stepped into the role at the at the last moment when the actor who was supposed to play the role was somehow unavailable.

Roderigo Prieto is indeed Mexican. He was born in Mexico City in 1965 so he'd be around 39 when this shot was taken."

He had last visited Bettermost in March of this year.

I believe he learned he was ill a few months earlier than that.  He gave a good fight.  I actually thought he would make it!  :'(
