Have a happy celebration tonight, for those who celebrate! I'd actually like to know more about this holiday!

One of the few things I object to in my adopted country

The sooner it is banned the better. Private fireworks were banned in Australia a long time ago although the Fireworks night was Commonwealth Day (May 24) when I was a child and then moved to Queen's Birthday (First Monday in June) which is far more sensible in the Southern Hemisphere.
Fireworks are on sale in shops for 4 days prior. The banging begins about 9pm here (Sunset 8.30pm). I think less than I remember from previous years. Not good for poor dogs.
Probably no one knows much about who Guy Fawkes was anyway.

I've heard of Guy Fawkes day, but I wouldn't be able to say what it was for.
