Title: BBM Theatre Pictures
Post by: SFEnnisSF on April 10, 2006, 11:25:29 pm
Did you take any pictures of the theatres showing BBM?  If so, post them here:

First up.

THE DEL MAR THEATRE in Santa Cruz, CA.  (Apropriately named, isn't it?  ;)  My friend said it should have been renamed The Ennis Del Mar Theatre!)

TRIVIA:  Back in January, this theatre had both a HEATH LEDGER and a JAKE GYLLENHAAL "double feature" at the same time!  That's right:  3 movies playing featuring Heath in two and Jake in two, at the same time!
It was:
Heath in Casanova
Heath in BBM
Jake in BBM
and Jake in Donnie Darko for the midnight show (Fri + Sat night).

You could have stayed all day and night and never got enough of these two!

The CALIFORNIA THEATRE in Berkeley, CA.

This is one of the original 12/16 opening theatres.  I was there opening night.  On the marquee read:  Crouching Cowboys Hidden Passions  ;D

The AQUARIUS THEATRE in Palo Alto, CA.

Another original 12/16 opening theatre. The screens and auditoriums are small, and when I saw BBM here near the end of December and in January, they were sold out each show!!!   :o  ;D

Man, I should have taken pictures! That didn't even occur to me! I saw it at *counts ticket stubs* nine different theatres! (I kind of made it a little game to go to lots of theatres I've never been to because I'm new to this area.)

Great pics!  I went to a movie theater in San Francisco that was amazing, but I can't remember where it was.  Just that it was out of the way.  I had the good luck to see 'The Best of Youth', a wonderful movie about an Italian family from the 60s to today.

The hitch is that it's in two parts and six hours, but it's so worth it.  God I wanna move!!

The ORINDA THEATRE in Orinda, CA

BBM opened on 12/29 here.  You see it listed at the top of the marquee.  They were also showing Kong and Geisha, in much smaller auditoriums.  ;D

BBM opened on 01/06 here.  All performances all weekend were SOLD OUT!

Inside The TOWER THEATRE before BBM is about to start.

PACKED CROWD.  SOLD OUT.  Since they had to wait until 01/06 for it to open here, the crowd seemed to really appreciate it more.  They roared and cheered at the Thanksgiving scene!  I will never forget this experience!   :)

The CENTURY 25 in San Jose, CA (on the border of Campbell.)  This is a conservative part of town.

BBM opened on 01/20 here.  I saw the 7:00 show and it was about 80% full!  No one made a peep.  In fact they cheered at the Thanksgiving scene here too!   :)

Sorry for the far away pic.  You can see BBM on the top of the marquee.  This was originally one large dome theatre, and they split it in two by putting a wall down the center of it.   ???  :o  ::)

The CENTURY 21-23, San Jose, CA

BBM originally opened at the small art house theatres across the street in Santana Row on 12/16.  In February, BBM was moved over here to the large dome theatres.   8)

These giant dome theatres are still in tact, and they're SJ's highest grossing theatres.  All the blockbusters play here, which of course is why BBM was moved here!  ;D

Yeah baby!

The BRIDGE THEATRE in San Francisco, CA

This was taken last Friday night 04/07.  BBM was moved here after it's final run at the infamous EMBARCADERO, where it opened on 12/09 as one of the original 5 theatres producing the 109k PTA.

There were only about 14 people for the show.  Pretty much everybody in SF has already seen BBM.  ;D

Another view of THE BRIDGE.

You can see the BBM poster in the lower right hand corner of the picture.   8)

BBM will only play here one week.  This will probably be just about it for BBM in San Francisco.  (With the DVD out and all.)

Our final stop is THE PARKWAY THEATRE in Oakland, CA

This is a 2nd run theatre that has couches and tables, and they serve pizza and beer!  8)

They had to wait until 03/31 to get BBM because the Piedmont theatre wouldn't let go of it.  This picture was taken Sunday 04/09.

Here is their roof top sign.

This will be the last theatre in the SF Bay Area to play BBM most likely.  It sure has been a fun experience.

Can't wait for the director's cut re-release  ;D

OMG I almost forgot:  The CINEARTS @ THE SEQUOIA in Mill Valley, CA

This was hands down one of the BEST presentations of BBM in a movie theatre.  The screen was huge, but not too big, and the sound was awesome.  This is the only theatre I went to where as the credits started to roll, NO ONE MOVED.  Yeah, the impact of the film and the way it was presented was that good!

Ok, went to the theatre today for my 38th viewing.  Even though I have my DVD's, both widescreen and fullscreen, there's just nothing like smartenin' up and heading out to the theatres for BBM.  It's still showing at the Opera Plaza Cinemas in San Francisco.  This is where all art house films go at the end of their run...as you can see.

And here's poster row right next to the box office.  Saw the 5:15pm show today.  There were about 10 people in the theatre.  8)

I had uncontrollable fits of sobbing.  I don't know, maybe after 38 theatre viewings it finally all poured out.  I had to go into the restroom after the movie and stand in a stall for 20 minutes and just cry my eyes out.  BBM got me good!

:o  There must be some really awesome theatres in CA!  None of the theatres in my location look like that - we have multi-plexes and huge, small-town renovated theatres.  Most of the theaters in these parts look like this (http://www.cinematour.com/location/usa/ia/osclyr.jpg) and this (http://www.cinematour.com/location/usa/ia/lamoni.jpg).   :)

I didn't take any pictures at the multi-plexes I went to - one reason being I don't have a camera phone!

Wow!  What a great record of Brokeback's run, I wish there was more.  We hardly have any signs out in Australia any more, they've all gone electronic, and mostly inside the box office rather than on the street.

Oh I have never seen this thread, this is absolutely wonderful, it's so much fun to look through all the posts and see the cinemas where you have seen BBM. Thought I'd do a bump of this thread with some pictures.

Here is a photo of the marquee at the Bridge theater in San Francisco during the last week of the movie being shown in the San Francisco area last April or May. This photo was shot the night before the marquee was changed to the next film. In other words, this view is one of the last visualities of Brokeback Mountain on a theater marquee during its initial run.

I asked the theater manager to rework the marquee to show only Brokeback Mountain; the front elevation had been featuring the upcoming attractions, and I thought such a photo for history and posterity ought not be tainted by anything other than BBM. After much discussion and salesmanship, he agreed, if I helped, which of course I was glad to do.

In honor of the last week, I had a florist make a display for the lobby; it was very nice, too. Red roses for passion, yellow roses for farewell, and pine twigs for Wyoming mountain motif. To add to the motif, the arrangement as on a bed of rock and drift wood. I sent it anonymously (and feel OK mentioning it here as I remain anonymous!) as a personal thanks as well as a congratulatory symbol for the last week of the film's run. The popcorn concession's girl told me they thought that the director or production company had sent it; is that not wonderful?

I shot two roles of film for this. The marquee is neon and goes through a regimen of lighting each letter of the Bridge name, then highlighting the entire display with lots of red neon. The timing is very fast so getting the all blue name was tough. I think the all blue is perfect.

What's more perfect is the name. I have been enjoying the name Bridge associated with BBM. The story bridges two wonderful men's lives. The film bridges many thoughts, yearnings, ideas, and emotions. A bridge is a linking of two important entities. Ennis and Jack created a Bridge we know as Brokeback, in many ways.

Enjoy!

Comeback for an old, old thread  :)
I saw BBM in theatre again two days ago and took some pics of the theatre. The theatre is in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The Americans living here call it "K-Town" because they say it's hard to pronounce and spell for them  ;D

The theatre:

The showcase with BBM and I'm not There poster. An employee of the theatre saw that I took pictures and offered to open the showcase extra for me, so I wouldn't have the reflection of the pane on the pic  :D. What a nice guy.

Another poster shows the 10+1 Commandments for moviegoers. It's pretty funny. One commandment was: Cry as much as you want. It's dark and nobody will see you. I took this to heart.  :-\

I found the yin and yang symbols on the poster cool  8)
