Name Our New Fur Baby Poll
« on: May 22, 2007, 09:32:53 am »
Rick and I lasted about one month without a fur baby.  We didn't think we would be ready this soon, but, we miss the company.  Losing Rupert was tough, but we know that he would want us to share our lives with another companion.

Here he is.  The breeder sent this picture of our new baby, and since we are having a tough time coming up with a name, I thought I would post a poll.  One of the names above, is the puppy's whelping box name, and one is the name we are leaning toward, but suggestions are welcome.  We are very happy and very excited.

OMG, he's adorable! If he were going to be mine, I'd just call him Buddy because that's what he would be, my buddy.

But I'll suggest "Arthur."

Awww, is there anything cuter than a puppy? What a sweet baby he is. Look how the white hairs on his chest fluff up over the black ones. Adorable!
I'm happy for you that you and Rick gave in to the urge of having a dog in your life again. That's really good news.

For the name: I voted for Quincy, but I also like Jeff's idea very much: Buddy.

If he were mine I'd name him Harley or Barney, like Jeff's Buddy too, but I know you like baseball Scott so I picked Fenway.  They add such dimension to our lives, don't they, even when we lose a beloved one, there is always room in the heart and home for one more.  So much unconditional love and joy from one small, soon to be larger, package.  Dogs, pets really, but dogs especially are blessing.

I think naming a pet should be done thinking of the fact that most of the pet's life will be as a mature animal.  So you should give a dignified and proud name.  May I suggest Toast as a name for your fur pet.
Then your pet names for your pet could be
Toasty for those warm cuddly days,
Toaster for those dominant forceful days,
Toast for formal occasions,
Mr. Toast for chummy days,
Toasted for tired and restful times
....

Of the names listed, I like Sam best.  But another comes to mind:  Rooney.  :)

I've never heard of that breed. How many pounds can you expect him to be when he's full-grown?

Such an adorable furry little face. ...  :D

Medium sized dog.  18 to 30 pounds and 14 to 17nches tall, but they look bigger, because when they are adult, their coats look like a sheepdogs coat.  They are very strong and agile, with flat feet that provide traction in the snow.  Rupert was a TT.  Great breed.

The TT originally came from the Himalayan country of Tibet, and were raised primarily by the lamas in monestaries, and were kept pure-bred for over 2,000 years.  They were kept as compnaions, good luck charms and watchdogs.

Good for you, Scott.

You might try a Tibetan name:  "Tashi" means greetings; "Aara" means moustache. :)

Here's a link, although it's about Tibetan Spaniels, not Terriers:

Namba ("gift") or Shiwa ("peace") would make nice names, but they sound a little too female for a boy.

Don't let me near this fella, I would cuddle him to death... well, ok so to speak... ;D

Buddy is good, as is Jack, but they may be too common.

I voted for Grady.

BTW, if your puppy was a girl, I'd suggest Junior.  Or Lucy, so you could come home from work and say, "Lucy, I'm home!" in your best Ricky Ricardo voice.

I like the "Teddy" part, but maybe the "Theodore" part is a little too "Leave it to Beaver"-ish?  ???

Though it also suggests, perhaps, "Alvin"?  :)

I voted for Darby, but I would probably name him Rocky if he was my dog.

He's so cute, Scott! I love the white sock markings on his back feet.

Maybe you could name him Two Socks! No. That's too "Dances With Wolves", isn't it?

Darby or Rocky!  :D

He reminds me of my black and white cat, Oreo. I named him after the cookie.

Maybe you name your dog Orie!  :D

OK Scott
I'll play by the rules and choose from the list provided.

I voted for Oliver.

Great name for expressing your feelings for your furry friend.

Oliver for day to day use
Olly for when he's great
Liver for when he's not so great.
Olive for his feminine side
Olivier for those VERY formal times.

I formally voted for Rufus, or Ruffy for short, or Ruff-Stuff for cute, or Mr Rufus when he's been naughty.  :D

Did someone say he's a Tibetan Terrier? In that case, maybe you should be considering a more appropriate name. Something like Lobsang Rampa, maybe?

Congratulations Scott

I'm glad you really chose the name yourself, and I'm sure the doggy's personality had something to do with it.

I'm not a pet person myself, but I love to know that pet's are part of some families.

I wish you many happy years with Grady.

Grady's a great name.  I think it suits him to a "T".

Please keep the photos coming.  I hope the two weeks fly by.

Awwwww---I love the name Grady and he is so precious. Puppy breath is the best! I have dogs and I dogsit for all of my friends who go on vacation, but I have never had or sat with a Tibetan terrier. What's the profile on that breed? He will surely be playful since he's a terrier--I have a Yorkie who goes with a toy in her mouth all time--and she's 7.

I missed out on the naming, but I would have suggested, "Jack". LOL That's what I'm going to name my next Lab. But I try to get everyone to name their new babies, "Jack", too.  :P    Have fun!!! Show pics!!
