This device is mostly made of metal and measures approximately 5-5/8" in height.

Hmmmmm ..... Well .......... Let's see, there's a place that looks like it needs a crank on one end.... .... Hmmmm then there is those clockwork gears on the other end ....... Oh but look at those three arched red thingy's.... ..... they look like MAGNETS... That's it I vote for the telephone magneto     Good choice David!  I love this stuff

           I love these things David, if i dont get it, I still have a great time trying to figure what they might be.
     I voted for the electrical generator, but i almost voted for the siren...cant wait to find out which it is.

I voted for a telephone magneto. I have no idea what a telephone magneto is or what it does, but I'm guessing some of its component parts are comprised of magnets, given the name "magneto." And the three red loopy things look like magnets to me. Either that or a clock mechanism. No, telephone magneto. I voted for telephone magneto. I'll stick with that. However, on second thought . . . . .

The answer is a Telephone Magneto

According to the website where I found this item, a telephone magneto was the part of the telephone a person would crank in order to alert the operator they would like to place a call.
